Genetically Modified Organisms. They are created when the seed

company " manually " inserts new DNA splices into an existing DNA

structure. Kind of similar in a way to cloning. They do this to

give the " new " organism specific traits. Most of the time it is

done not for consumer benefit, but for the benefit of the farmer who

gets seeds that make their own pesticides or whatever. Once upon a

time, they had manufactured a tomato using a FISH gene to give it

frost-reistence. Kind of weird to me, especially being a

vegetarian. If I am eating a tomato with fish genes in it, am I

eating a fish or a tomato or both? Is it OK for a vegetarian to eat

such food? I avoid them as much as possible. It's too much like

playing God to me.

It's a pretty big controversy, though most of the consumers in the

US are not aware that big business is doing this to their food. I

write as many letters as possible to my congresspeople to help give

us a CHOICE in what we choose to eat.

Ugh, that is just nasty. What will they come up with next. As far as

technology and knowledge, we are really living in the beginning stages

(depending on ones view). I can't even imagine what will be going on with

science and tech 100 years from now.

I posted an article here recently about GMO's I believe. It was about

putting rat genes in birds (?) which made them grow teeth. Scary.

Well, I'm no Mr. Money Bags and like my MorningStar way too much to stop

enjoying, so if I start growing a beak, that will just have to make the

plastic surgeons hit the books and lay off the Botox trend. :)
