Guest guest
Sorry for that somewhat juvenile subject, but it's just a blunt way of wording my thoughts... Anyway, Lori's comment below reminded me of my first time at Applebee's, which was a few years ago, and I thought I would just post this for any of you who have never been there, or have been there but not ordered their " house salad " . That's what I ordered, because (1) I wasn't very hungry anyway, and (2) the only other thing on the menu that was meatless was the typical veggie burger, and I just didn't feel like eating that. So I get a " house salad " thinking that'll be fine, and when the waiter brought it out, imagine my surprise to see not only shredded cheese (which, as I'm not vegan, was not really a big deal) but also chopped BACON and HARD-BOILED EGG! Umm, pardonnez-moi??!! What the crap is that? Who puts bacon and egg on a regular house salad? I know they put that stuff on chef's salads and the like...but a house salad is usually just lettuce, cabbage, shredded carrot, a cherry tomato, maybe some red onion, a slice of cucumber...I had to ask the waiter to take it back and make a new one. (I specifically said to make a new one, so they wouldn't just take a fork and try to scoop all the offending junk out of it.) Now, if I ever happen to be in an Applebee's (which isn't often!) and I order a house salad, I always ask for " no breakfast on it, please! " Lori <mrsshf wrote: You'd be surprised how many restaurants put [cheese] on salads! Of course, I did the " No cheese " thing last night at an Italian restaurant, and my dinner salad appeared without the cheese, as promised, but with an icky slice of pepperoni! Ewwww! Gross! So now I'll make sure to say, " No cheese OR meat on anything please. " ~~blessed be~~ Alison, the ana-spryte Free online calendar with sync to Outlook. " How cute and funny! I've never heard of that quote/saying before, I love it. Yeah, that's unusual, or so I thought anyway. Usually restaurants are usually pretty skimpy on their side salads. Isn't Applebees a steakhouse of sorts....I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I can't wait to use that line on someone, if only to see the confusion on their face alone, lol. Guest guest
Well, not exactly a steakhouse, although it is a feature there. But they also concentrate on burgers and spicy chicken things. Plus, they always have ahuge bar in the center of the place with TVs showing sports games. I am not anti-sports - I like watching baseball and football. But trying to have a meal with some drunk guys watching their hockey team (winning or losing, doesn't matter) is really irritating... Which is why, along with fast food, Applebee's is on my " generally avoid " list... I rarely eat out, really...I'm not very into or comfortable with food, especially in public places, but sometimes I do go out, and if I'm actually going to make that effort, I really want the experience to be as pleasant as possible, you know? Sure I'm not alone in that desire! _- matrixenos -_ <matrixenos wrote: Isn't Applebees a steakhouse of sorts....I wonder if that has anything to do with it. ~~blessed be~~ Alison, the ana-spryte Free online calendar with sync to Outlook.
