Jesus and fish

An interesting study is Keith Akers' book The Lost Religion of Jesus. Akers

takes the Bible seriously as a historical document, but treats it like all

historical documents as potentially flawed. In particular, he argues that

Bible includes some exaggeration or misrepresentation designed to address

controversies and " heresies " in the early Christian churches. Akers'

concludes that Jesus most likely was vegetarian and strongly doubts that

Jesus ate fish. He can't prove his point, of course, but he does provide

some compelling evidence. Many who hold the Bible as inerrant would object

to Akers' interpretation of Luke 24:43, which describes Jesus as eating fish

after the Resurrection. Rather than engage in disputes over Jesus' diet

over 2000 years ago, the Christian Vegetarian Association asks Christians to

consider what Jesus would likely eat today.

You know, quite honestly....if he did eat fish I wouldn't hold it

against him! It's intersting how societies can spend so much time

trying to figure out what an historical figure ate, when in reality

it wouldn't change our opinion of him....

I find it humorous that anyone could think that there is even a way

to determine with certainty what *anybody* ate back then.....

I think if Jesus was alive today He would be a strict vegan because of the way

the animals are treated.
