Guest guest
It's been rainy and cloudy and dreary up here in the northeast for days and days and days. It's the kind of weather that makes me crave " comfort food " , which in this case is soup and homemade rolls. I've never tried either recipe before, so it's going to be an experimental kind of night, but both recipes looked yummy. KRUPNIK SOUP (Beans, mushrooms & Barley vegetable Soup) Source: Shmulik Cohen's Jewish Kitchen Yield: 6 servings 1 cup white beans (I'm using pink, because that's what I had on hand) 1/2 cup pearl barley 3 tbs dried mushrooms (I'm leaving these out, because I'm allergic to 'shrooms) 10 cups water 2 carrots 2 zucchini 1/3 head cabbage 1 celery root 2 tbs chicken soup powder (I'm using veggie, of course) Put beans, barley and mushrooms in a big pot. Add the water, bring to a boil and simmer until beans are tender. Grate all the vegetables, add to the pot and simmer 30 minutes more. Add soup powder and cook 5 more minutes. Serve hot with lots of country bread. -- Sherri The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has determined that the maximum safe load capacity on my butt is two persons at a time, unless I install handrails or safety straps.
