I can sympathize with you which is why we do not buy any prepackaged vegan or

vegetarian foods. The prices are too prohibitive. On the other hand you can

do wonders with canned beans and they are always cheap. I feed 5 adults, 7

cats and 4 dogs on $1,600 a month Canadian and $700 of that is rent. You must

be a magician to survive on less than $900.

I am also sick with a handful of bone and connective tissue related diseases

and need to budget medicine in. I have found that shopping in Natural Food

stores is just ridiculous even in the city. Our local supermarket does actually

carry things like Soyez, and So Soy at not bad prices but personally I thing

they are yucky. I do like Soy Milk though and Rice Dream for my cereal. I

only get them occassionally for a treat.

I get free meds, which would cost ~1,000 per month, so that is one worry gone.

But you mentioned soy milk as a treat. I too, buy it as a treat for myself, and

would you believe it is one of the few things the little horrors (I'm sorry, I

really meant to say the delightful children whom I love so much <choke, gasp> I

live with like as much as myself (besides ice cream, except for that, no one

ever agrees on flavors.... if I buy it at all, it has to be three different

types - ACK) so soymilk in my house has a shelf life of about 3 hours. If that.

But, I can't afford it too d*mn often. Except for when I go to Costco. But if

I go there, I blow our whole month's food budget on exactly five items. The

items vary, but never do they cost less than $300.00. So we have a whole lot of

something. Just not enough of everything else.

I really can't wait until they are old enough to shop for themselves and cook

their own food. REALLY REALLY REALLY
