I really like Smart Dogs (from Lightlife), but they

must be boiled NOT microwaved unless you like them

rubbery. Have you tried them? Great with vegetarian

baked beans for beanies and weanies! Hmmm . . .

vegetarian chicken - I love the Quorn roast (more like

turkey than chicken though), Morningstar Farms chicken

nuggets, buffalo wings, and chick patties (none are

vegan). I'll have to try the Gardenburger meatless

balls - Gardenburger rib patties are really good. I

like most meat substitutes actually, if it doesn't

taste exactly like meat (for example Fakin' Bacon) I

usually still like it. Meateaters tend to be real

skeptical though which makes it tough. Good luck with

the BF, at least he's willing to try meat substitutes!

my favorite tofu dogs were soy boy not dogs which unlike other dogs

were not precooked but you could nuke them and they would harden as

they cooked. ah they were so good but unfortunately they have

vanished off the face of the earth at least in southern california.

if anyone still sees them around please let me know. I have also in

the past asked if anyone remembers solar tacos they could be eaten

cold, but they too disappeared. well stay cool Dave

We don't have that many meat substitutes where I am. I wish we did. We have the

garden burgers and some hot dogs. I think we have some fake chicken too. Oh, we

also have the crumbled fake hamburger. That's the one I use the most. But,

that's about it. I wish we had a bigger selection.

It's funny, but I don't really like the Gardenburger Meatballs.

There's some random brand (I don't remember the name right now) that

I picked up at the store that I really do like, tho.

Janice, never be afraid to ask at your supermarket for them to carry

certain items. And get your friends to ask, too. If the item has a

market, they will stock it.

As for meat substitutes, I really like the LightLife Smart Ground

taco flavor. I dice some peppers and onions, saute them, then add

the ground and a dash of hot sauce and heat through. They're great

on tacos and fools the carnivores most of the time. Also, it's very

reminiscent of grade school cafeteria days, with that enormous pump

bottle of hot sauce and trying not to let any goop land on your

clothes.... Ah the days :-)

It the LightLife taco stuff like crumbled up fake meat? I'd like to try it. It

sounds good.
