Guest guest
My husband still eats some meat and dairy (although not nearly as much). I'll cook him eggs once in awhile, but I don't cook any meat anymore, and I no longer have any animal products except milk and eggs (for him, not me) in the house. If he wants what I'm cooking, great. If not, he can go to the store and get something to cook for himself. I also keep a decent supply of Vegan junk food like vegan taquitos and other stuff that I know he likes in the freezer, just in case. I think the key is that we sat down and talked about it. He agreed that going veg was better for our health and better for the animals and the environment; he just isn't ready to give it up yet. It's his body, and he can do whatever he wants with it. In the meantime, he's been very supportive of me and my decision. Most of the time, as long as I don't tell him what's in it, he'll happily eat whatever I cook. Of course, it helps that I am a former professional chef, and I rarely cook anything that turns out yucky. If I don't like something I cooked for the first time, I don't serve it to him. And if he isn't in love with a new recipe, I don't cook it again. We don't have kids, so we don't have that complication. As far as milk is concerned, for me, the difference in my health is HUGE since I gave up dairy. I don't have any of the terrible female problems I used to have, my joints don't ache anymore, and I've been losing weight without really working at it. I really thought I'd miss it, especially the cheese, but I really don't. The thought of it kind of grosses me out now, to be honest. --- ~Janice~ <serenity1 wrote: > I'm trying to become a vegetarian but nobody in my > family is willing to join me. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. I'm not really much of a cook anyway, but I guess it's time to learn a new way of doing it. I fixed a recipe called garden burgers tonight. I think I did it right, but when I tried to flip them over they fell apart. Also the recipe said to form them into four patties. There was way to much to only make four. So I just put the rest in the frig. I plan on making some more tomorrow. Maybe they'll hold together better after they've cooled off. They tasted pretty good. My daughter ate some. She'll eat about anything though. LOL I haven't decided what I'm going to do about the dairy in my diet yet. I don't think I should cut it all out at once. I need to learn more about being a vegetarian first. I read an article about all of the bad promises that the dairy producers tell us. I didn't realize that milk was so bad. I will cut it out in time. In the mean time I want to drink the soy milk on occasion. That way I can acquire a taste for it. The chocolate is pretty good. I've been using the vanilla for cereal. I had it on oatmeal this morning. I've been eating a lot better then I used to. We usually keep fresh fruit on hand. We also keep fresh veggies. I plan on having a lot of salads this summer. I need to lose about 15 lbs. I've already lost almost 20 lbs.! My husband and I both were on a vegetarian diet a couple of years ago. He has high cholesterol. The diet didn't change it one bit. High cholesterol is hereditary in his family. He got tired of feeling so restricted by the diet, so he went back to it. I didn't at first but then I figured if you can beat them join them. Now I'm ready to go back to the diet. I remember feeling so much better then I do now.
