Yes, that is about the gist of it.

Some bees are harmed in the collection

of honey and vegans feel that it is also

exploiting bees to steal their honey. :)

This actually seems to be a somewhat debated issue

within the Vegan community. There seem to be quite a

few people who are strictly Vegan, except for the

honey.

I try to avoid it for the most part (although I am not

a strict Vegan; rather I'm a vegetarian who

consciously tries to limit animal products in my diet

and home), but it's really hard to find a tasty

commercially produced whole grain bread that doesn't

have honey in it.

Anyway, for more information on why honey isn't Vegan,

try this site:

In any case, here is a website

Sadly for vegans or wannabee-almost-as-good-as vegans, even soygurt

contains honey, as do most 'sweet' things for the health-conscious

and/or vegetarian consumer - 'to avoid the refined sugar', I'm told. I

put blackstrap molasses in my rye bread and pumpernickle but honey or a

little sugar in my other breads.

Best,

Pat
