Guest guest
Yes, that is about the gist of it. Some bees are harmed in the collection of honey and vegans feel that it is also exploiting bees to steal their honey. ~ PT ~ Death is a friend of ours; and he that is not ready to entertain him is not at home. ~ Francis Bacon, essayist, philosopher, and statesman (1561-1626) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~> , " dave " <dave4sale> wrote: > I've always wondered why some vegans (for either health or ehtical > reasons) don't eat honey. is it simply because it is produced by an > animal or are bees actually harmed in the honey collection? Guest guest
This actually seems to be a somewhat debated issue within the Vegan community. There seem to be quite a few people who are strictly Vegan, except for the honey. I try to avoid it for the most part (although I am not a strict Vegan; rather I'm a vegetarian who consciously tries to limit animal products in my diet and home), but it's really hard to find a tasty commercially produced whole grain bread that doesn't have honey in it. Anyway, for more information on why honey isn't Vegan, try this site: http://www.vegetus.org/honey/honey.htm In any case, here is a website --- dave <dave4sale wrote: > I've always wondered why some vegans (for either > health or ehtical > reasons) don't eat honey. is it simply because it > is produced by an > animal or are bees actually harmed in the honey > collection? > > The New Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo. http://search.
Guest guest
Sadly for vegans or wannabee-almost-as-good-as vegans, even soygurt contains honey, as do most 'sweet' things for the health-conscious and/or vegetarian consumer - 'to avoid the refined sugar', I'm told. I put blackstrap molasses in my rye bread and pumpernickle but honey or a little sugar in my other breads.
