Guest guest
Hey everyone, I just have a small issue I wanted to make everyone aware of (especially parents!). Recently the National School Lunch Program has decided to review its policy on disallowing non-milk products (such as soy milk) as an option for kids who do not have documented milk allergies. There is a news story about it here: http://www.cnn.com/2003/EDUCATION/03/03/school.soy.milk.ap/ For those of you who are involved with the schools, you may want to give your local school lunch programs some input on the matter. I don't normally get really involved in political matters, but this one kinda gets under my skin, since the National School Lunch Program (run by the Department of Agriculture) seems to have dairy producers' interests at heart more than the proper nutrition of our children. And you know, I guess I'd even be okay with that, but they're pretending that the dairy industry isn't the issue here, and well, I don't like to be insulted like that. Guest guest
Thanks for this info, Malinda. I will definately check it out in my schools next time I am there and ask them what they are serving. I feel there should always be some alternative for children who might have dairy allergies or be lactose intolerant. If they didn't wish to provide them with a soy-based milk alternative they could at least offer a calcium fortified fruit juice of some kind, IMO. ~ PT ~ ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> , Malinda Riffle <stellavoce> wrote: > Hey everyone, I just have a small issue I wanted to make everyone aware of (especially parents!).
