Guest guest
I've got three kids. They're 16, 12, and 11 right now, so we don't have many problems they can't solve themselves at meal times. We've been veggie for several years now and they like most everything my wife and I eat. In fact, I eat a wider range than she does, including tofu and tempei, both of which she dislikes. However, with the many excellent meat substitutes these days, there is no major problem. I do recall when our kids were younger that we'd often let them help plan and make a meal. That inspires them. I also remember the Spock advice to not worry overly about kids being picky -- they will graze if you make healthy foods available to them. My youngest at the moment is on an orange binge and will eat five in a row sometimes. We don't see anything wrong with that -- better than bags of chips, etc. We also used the method of, if you want the good dessert, you must eat this or that. Worked fine. In fact, last night I was dealing with a six year old girl, daughter of our Sensei, at an Olive Garden. She'd bonded to me and I was encouraging her to eat, etc. When she wanted the ice cream they offered, I made a deal: If she had taken at least one big bite out of each piece of her personal kid's pizza, she could have the ice cream. This worked fine -- she left most of the crust, but the rest got into her.
