Guest guest
Hi All, I will have persimmons for sale after Thanksgiving. I'll have both Hachiya and Hyakume, but probably no Fuyus. (In my experience, Fuyus taste substantially the same whether they come from a store or straight from the tree.) The Hachiyas and Hyakume are very similar. The only difference is that the latter are lighter in color when they're unripe and they sometimes have small brown specs in the fruit. They are slightly less sweet than the Hachiyas, imo. I saw conventional Hyakumes in Uwajimaya yesterday for $3/lb. The Hachiyas were $1.69 each, and they were very small. Both varieties are uncertified organic and $1.50/lb, 20 pounds minimum. For your reference, 20 pounds would be roughly 40 pieces of fruit, which will ripen at varying and forgiving rates (that's one reason why persimmons are such a great winter staple.) Personally, I usually eat a couple hundred pounds over the winter, jfyi. Please email me if you'd like to order, and stipulate which variety you want. I'll only be bringing back as much as I have orders for. I'll also have California Chandler walnuts and pecans. I still have plenty of unpasteurized almonds as well. Let me know if I can answer any questions. Best wishes, Nora
