Mraz sizes up

By Mark Daniell, Canoe.CA

Last month, Jason Mraz notched the longest run of any song in

Billboard's Hot 100 history. But he maintains that his chart-topping

wedding staple, I'm Yours, isn't necessarily a love song.

" I wrote it between me and the spiritual world that I know nothing

about. That's who I wrote it for, " he admitted in Toronto.

… And it's that sense of gratitude that threads its way through his

live show, which is based on a San Francisco raw food restaurant that

quite literally changed how Mraz interacts with the world.

Thanks Jeff:

I am a fan of his music.? The " I'm Yours " song's lyrics are clever but may be

too subtle or sublime for most to understand: like the line " Our name is our

virtue " ? Human = humane or perhaps human being instead of human doing...

I went to his concert sort of in Portland at the Rose Garden.? I got there an

hour and a half early and passed out leaflets for Vegan Outreach (VO) and In

Defense of the Animals IDA.? I had hoped the crowd would be more hip - for the

2000 that passed me only 90 took booklets and about 10 said they were already

veggie or vegan.

Has anyone thought about doing raw vegan outreach?? VO has passed out 10 million

booklets so far.

3 staff members over the 90 minute period came out and asked for samples so I

was secretly hoping for a free ticket from Jason...? The audience was about

6,000 ... far from capacity.? It was only my third time doing leafletting so I

walked to my car in a warm glow.

Bill

Do you know about vegan TV? -

http://www.suprememastertv.com/webtv/index_flash_high.php#tv

It is 24 hour 7 days a week in 30+ languages with subtitles also. There are

shows on famous yogi's etc. and one of her people did some videoing at the

Portland Vegfest.

Hey Bill,

It's important to me to help provide information to people so they may

make informed choices. This is primarily via the internet where people

are searching for answers, at least answers other than available via

the usual methods (doctors, etc.).

Some of the most passionate and diligent activists are animal rights

and vegan activists. I haven't seen the same kind of activism and

leafletting among raw foodists, but it is certainly a worthy cause and

a good idea. One aspect of the Raw Network of Washington (Raw NOW), as

well as the Seattle Raw Foods Community previously, is education. Raw

NOW has done some tabling at the U-District farmers market (and

perhaps elsewhere?). Leafletting is certainly one way to reach and

educate more people. That would increase our membership and clout and

allow us to put on more events, etc.

Are you looking for some flyers? Perhaps we could include contact

information for both the Portland and Seattle groups to get more

connection in the NW. Perhaps we could gather raw flyers used by

individuals and groups around the country. I know Nora Lenz has

created flyers that she has handed out. I believe Monika has also

created some available to patrons of Thrive.

Are you able to join us at the Gala this Thursday?
