Then about a year ago, she adopted a raw food diet. Raw food conjures up images of steak tartare, sushi and salad, but the burgeoning raw-food movement goes beyond that. Many adherents eat no animal products, instead consuming little or no food heated more than 118 degrees. Raw foodies believe that if food is cooked above 118 degrees, the heat degrades the food's enzymes and minerals, detracting from its nutritional value. In addition, they say, raw food helps cleanse the body of toxins, leaving it in a healthier state.
