Guest guest
Hi All, The wild apricots are finally getting ripe! I haven't seen them yet but by all accounts this season may just make up for the apricot drought of 08! I'm planning to go over and harvest them next weekend, the 18th. For those who have never had these, they are really exceptional. If you've wondered what is meant by the advice to eat organic " or better " , this is it. Not only are these trees uncultivated (they weren't planted but grow voluntarily, which means growing conditions are ideal), but they are unsprayed, unpruned, minimally watered and a larger percentage of fruit falls and renourishes the soil than in commercial orchards, since I can't reach all the fruit. In addition, the fruit is unrefrigerated, which is very important with apricots. If you've only eaten apricots from a store, you've never really eaten apricots! The difference is really astonishing. " Free range " cots sell in the San Francisco farmers market for $6/pound. So these are a bargain at $3/lb. In my records I see that almost everybody who bought them two years ago ordered at least 10 pounds so I don't think a 10 pound minimum is too burdensome. To give you an idea how much one person can eat, I usually keep 30-40 pounds for myself. They will keep for a couple weeks in a cool place like a basement or shaded garage. I don't have time to set up an ordering database but may do so later. In the meantime please email your order to me directly. It'll be first-come, first-served since I'm not sure of the quantity I'll be able to get. Please plan to pick up Sunday evening or Monday morning/evening. I have moved since last year, I'm now in the same general area but on a very quiet street (!) behind Robinswood Park (in Bellevue). Please email me w/ any questions. Thank you!
