Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Emily, et. al., Over time in this group, I've seen various writings about oil pulling, so I thought it might be constructive to look at this practice a bit more closely. I've chatted about this with Doug Graham, and his thoughts and mine are blended below. From the site http://www.oilpulling.com/, we have the following description and instructions. Our comments are interspersed and appear as purple text within square brackets, as " [our comments here] " . (If you receive text-only email, you can obviously see only the square brackets.) _____ In the morning before breakfast on an empty stomach you take one tablespoon in the mouth but do not swallow it. [Whenever we put any liquid or soluble material into the mouth, we will always swallow a portion of it, this is unavoidable.] Move Oil Slowly in the mouth as rinsing or swishing and Dr Karach puts it as ' sip, suck and pull through the teeth' for fifteen to twenty minutes. [speaking for myself, I am so in the habit of eating high-water-content foods that I cannot imagine keeping anything like this in my mouth for any length of time, much less 15-20 minutes. Cheryl, you report 5 minutes, even that would seem an eternity to me. No explanation is provided as to the relationship between time swished and results anticipated.] This process makes oil thoroughly mixed with saliva. [i can " thoroughly mix " any liquid with my saliva in a matter of seconds. Perhaps this explanation is missing something?] Swishing activates the enzymes [Which enzymes? And does this mean our enzymes are not activated already, or otherwise? Does this mean that no one who does not swish has activated enzymes? And what does it mean to " activate " an enzyme, anyway?] and the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood. [How does this occur? How does the oil ever make contact with the blood? No indication about how this might occur is provided. If physical contact des not occur, then there can be no transfer of microbes or anything else from one fluid to the other.] The oil must not be swallowed, for it has become toxic. [Pure oil is always toxic to the human physiology. Does this imply that it has somehow become more toxic by virtue of swishing?] As the process continues, the oil gets thinner and white. If the oil is still yellow, it has not been pulled long enough. [i get that, in the mouth, the chemistry of the oil eventually changes. I still see no connection to the blood or otherwise to the interior of the body.] It is then spit from the mouth, the oral cavity must be thoroughly rinsed and mouth must be washed thoroughly. Just use normal tap water and good old fingers to clean. Clean the sink properly, you can use some antibacterial soap to clean the sink. [Why is it safe to clean the mouth, which is part of us, with tap water, yet an antibacterial soap is needed to clean the sink, which is not part of us? And who, in this day and age, recommends using tap water in the mouth?] Because the spittle contains harmful bacteria and toxic bodily waste. If one were to see one drop of this liquid magnified 600 times under a microscope, one would see microbes in their first stage of development. [if I lick a microscope plate and place it under a microscope, I see organisms. That is, the " spittle " contained bacteria before the oil pulling exercise ... microbes are omnipresent, they are expected. Is there something special about magnification of 600:1? Furthermore, if I now expect to see microbes " in their first stage of development " , does this mean that the oil pulling triggered them to grow? Why is this desirable?] Friends, when you put toxic material into your body, your body jumps into action to modify, isolate, and/or destroy, then eliminate the toxin. This is the same story with all " cleanses " ... the reason people observe a cleansing response is that the body is cleansing the cleanse. It makes no difference where we put the cleanse material, or what it is made of. Hope this makes sense! After spitting and rinsing, I rub more oil on gums and leave it on. Works great for me! Good luck. Peace on earth. Cheryl
Guest guest
Elchanon, Cheryl, Emily I oil pull when I feel the need, my teeth get whiter the longer I do it and feel generaly healthier. The best oil to use is Sunflower oil (Flora) although I have used cocnut too. *Considering the enzyme activation* , Does it not seem feasable that when you put something in your mouth and move it around for the 20 minutes that some acts of digestion are triggered ? When someone chews gum the gastric acids build up and saliva is stimulated so why not digestive enzymes 10-20 minutes later. If there is no food to digest I can see why they say the enzymes get to the blood. These are just my guesses, they make sense to me. Go ahead , give it a try and report back and let us know.
