Guest guest
When a person is switching to raw, before they invest too much into growing root vegetables and plants from the cabbage family to eat raw, they should try getting some from the grocery store and eating them raw for a while first, if they haven't regularly been eating these raw already. I really liked root vegetables, beet family greens, and the cabbage family when I was eating cooked food, but I they don't work for me raw. I'm guessing part of why some people can eat these raw is they went raw before their kidneys, liver, and digestive tract were hammered. A lot of people have really messed up digestive tracts, including me. Maybe I will be able to eat a bit of them raw one day, but for the time being, I'm eating fruit, nuts, lettuce, and parsley greens. Parsley greens overwinter (without any protection) pretty good in the cold pocket in Auburn where I am by the White River. I'm dependant on commercial storage for a source of fresh pears during the winter. Washington state is a big producer of pears, so buying pears at the store is buying regionally (unless they come from New Zealand) and they keep lots longer in commercial storage than you can at home. The same goes for apples, except for the fact I can't eat them. Someday I'd like to get an old refrigerator, and experiment with techniques to see how long I can stretch out the late season keeper pears in a home refrigerator. May your day be filled with clarity, grace, progress, and warm laughter, Roger
