vitamin B deficency

Hello, I think I remember reading some posts over the last few years

regarding vegan diet and Vitamin B deficiency. I've been a raw vegan

for about 3 years and think I may be becoming deficient (recently had

a blood test that indicated elevated homocysteine levels).

I would greatly appreciate information anyone may have to share on

this topic such as symptoms, good supplement sources for B vitamins

etc. My primary care doctor thinks that I would be showing serious

signs of unclear thinking and trouble walking. Has anyone had these

experiences?

I have done very well with the raw vegan diet and juice fasting - it

has helped me immensely with some heath issues that no doctor (and I

saw many of them) alternative or otherwise was able to help me with.

I've had great energy and a major reduction in inflammation symptoms

until recently. This winter however, I have had what appears to be a

pretty low immune system, low energy, and miscarriages. One of my main

questions is is it possible to have a B deficiency and not be

experiencing serious or noticeable problems thinking and walking?

I know these things can be complex, but my intuition and the fact that

I have been a vegan for such a long time and not supplemented any b

vitamins, has me feeling that it is likely I am deficient. I'd like to

gather all the information I can right now. I love the raw vegan life

and want to continue to be successful, energetic and healthy with it.

Any suggestions, experiences, information is very welcome!

Thank you,

Michelle

Here's a link to a site with videos by Dr. Tel-Oren. He put together a

series of short videos on relevant subjects. There was a site called

thetruthaboutyourfood.com but I'm not finding it today - it was there a week

ago.

So here's a site called We Like It Raw and they've got his video on vitamin

B deficiency and a link to all of his videos.

Hope this is helpful for you.

Cheers!

Michelle,

I've been vegan for 21 years and have never supplemented.

Taking supplements is commonly thought of as erring on the side of caution

but I think a more conservative and cautionary approach would be to look at

your diet and identify mistakes you might be making. Not only is this less

risky than taking supplements, but it is far more likely to reveal the true

underlying cause of your symptoms.

I have a lengthy essay that addresses the topic of B12 that may help put

your fears to rest. I can send it to you privately if you're interested.

There is also a short essay on my website about nutrient deficiency in

general, as it relates to raw fooders.

Best wishes,

Nora
