Persimmons

Hello All,

I had a very productive trip to California last week. I brought back about 700

pounds of Hachiya and Hyakume persimmons. They are from trees that are not

sprayed or attended to in any way. One of the trees I picked from is in the

middle of an empty pasture and doesn't even get watered so it has to find its

own sub-surface water and may have to go all the way to the water table, picking

up lots of nutrients along the way. Both of these varieties are the kind that

need to be translucent and super soft before eating. No Fuyus (the hard crunchy

kind) this year, sorry.

I was in Seattle Uwajimaya today and they had conventional Hyakumes for $2.59/lb

and conventional Hachiyas for $2.29 each. Even the cheapest produce stores in

Chinatown are charging $1.29 each for medium sized conventional Hachiyas. So my

price of $2/lb is a great deal.

I hope to post photos of the two varieties on the homepage later. They

look very different from each other when they're unripe but after they ripen

they are both deep orange/red and are sweet and jelly-like inside. The Hyakumes

are smaller. Since they are so similar except for size, I will be mixing them

up so everyone will get some of each.

The minimum order is 10 pounds. Please enter your order on the database. They

will be available for pick up starting on Wednesday evening. Please indicate in

your order when you'd like to pick up. (I'm in Bellevue, near I-90/405.)

Thanks and feel free to email if you have questions.

Best wishes,

Nora

Nora, will you be going to the Casey Phyle meeting this Wednesday,

since you are going to begin providing order pickups that day?

(I myself would like 15 lbs and could pick them up around 6:45, before

going to the meeting)

This was meant for Nora only - dang, I keep forgetting that replying

directly goes to the list.
