Hi Judy,

Here is a link that I found to an article by Dr. Cousens on " Fat in a Live Food

Diet "

www.treeoflife.nu/whyfat

He makes the point that raw fat is different from cooked fat. As far as I know,

all of the studies on problems with high fat diets have been done on people

eating cooked fat, and usually there are lots of hydrogenated fats in their diet

too. So its no surprise they do poorly eating fat like that. Some ethnic groups

have done well with diets higher in raw fat.

Dr. Cousens also emphasizes the need to get enough essential fats and the

importance of the ratio of the different fats in the diet. Regardless of the

amount of fat in your diet, understanding about these issues can be helpful. I

found I did better with a couple essential fat supplements, and my experience

matches what he recommends in this article.

He states that 20% fat is a good goal, and 50% is a " little high " . Then he goes

on to describe the conditions and body types where the person will do better

with more than 20% fat calories in their diet. He advocates varying your diet

and feeling for where you do better, and so doesn't give specifics on exactly

how much more fat for different special circumstances.

He emphasizes that getting enough protein and essential fats is more important

than an extremely low level of fat in the diet. I got the impression that he

feels this is easier to do on a diet with 20% fat calories, and that this many

calories in raw fat wasn't a problem. He felt that some people would likely need

more fat than this in their diet, and that for them, this would be healthy.

May your day be filled with clarity, grace, strength, progress, and warm

laughter,

Roger
