Guest guest
If you know anyone living in the greater San Francisco bay area, perhaps you may wish to forward this message to them. Elchanan <http://stopthespray.org/> http://StopTheSpray.org _____ S Falcone [bekindbecause] Tuesday, June 10, 2008 10:27 AM Aerial Pesticide Spraying starts Aug 17- Marine, bird, insect, companion animals at risk Dear Everyone, The Calif Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) plans to start aerial pesticide spraying of Sonoma, San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Monterey counties. The hardest hit (by far) will be San Fran, southern Marin, and the East Bay. (see map at StopTheSpray.org -spelled out " dot " due to computer problem) This is to kill the Light Brown Apple Moth (LBAM) which scientists estimate has been here for 30 - 50 years The CDFA itself says the LBAM has done NO crop damage. Ever. Now they say it's an emergency and they must spray *immediately*. The spraying will go on up to FIVE years or until every last moth is dead (which scientists say will not happen)! In 2007, they sprayed in Santa Cruz and Monterey. 643 people *reported* illness, many marine animals died, cats and dogs died (the last told to me by Kisasi Brooks, Environmental Justice Coordinator, Loni Hancock's regional office). No Environmental Impact Report has been done. This is an " Experiment " ! The main pesticide mix is *time- released*- it releases for 30 days after it's been sprayed. The chemical company won't say what all the ingredients are. It will be used in conjunction with other pesticides. Scientists say it WILL NOT WORK! It has ingredients PROVEN to be toxic to honeybees and aquatic animals. They say homeless people are at huge risk. What then about homeless dogs and cats and wild animals in general. 31 cities have said " you cannot spray here " and there are lawsuits pending, but the state overrides the local. We need to tell Gov. Schwarzenegger: You cannot poison the Bay Area/Monterey! You cannot poison all the living animals here! And for what reason?! No, no, no! We will not allow it!! For information on local groups/events in your area, scientific and political information, who to contact and to **sign the petition for Schwarzenegger** (almost 30,000 signatures so far) please go to: StopTheSpray.org (spelled out " dot " due to computer problem). Thank you for helping stop animals, all animals, from being continuously sprayed with pesticides. Stephanie
