Guest guest
To all, Are any of you guys part of CSAs? If so, which ones, why did you chose these ones, how much fruit/lettuce do you typically receive, and how much selection do you have? My diet consists of lots of fruit (about 15 pieces a day), 2 lettuce heads and other veggies per day and I'm looking for a way to buy organic produce at decent prices...does anyone have any experience speaking to distributors and getting discounts? I live on the Eastside (Redmond) and appreciate any help and advice. Thanks to all! Best wishes, Caroline P.S. If you do not fall into the above categories, do you buy in specific stores to get better prices? I used to buy at Costco, Larry's, Uwajimaya, Top Foods (least expensive) but their organic produce is very limited.
Guest guest
I just started getting single-serving boxes from Full Circle Farms as of this week, mostly because the pickup is close to where I live (on the edge between Redmond & Bellevue), but also because it is flexible: " Sign up for a week, a year, or anywhere in between. You can change box sizes, take weeks off, or share extra boxes with friends or neighbors. " . Members can check on the website what will be in the box each week. You can select 3 items that you don't ever want included, and make at least 5 replacements to the scheduled items. The cost for a single is $29/week. Here is what is scheduled for my next pickup: 1 bunch Spinach 1 pound Roma Tomatoes 1 bunch Bunched Carrots 2 each Yellow Bell Peppers 1 each Yellow Onions 1 each Cucumbers 0.75 pound Sunchokes FCF (this means it was grown at Full Circle Farm) 4 each Navel Oranges 1 bunch Lacinato Kale 1 each Kent Mangos 1 each Grapefruit 4 each Braeburn Apples * (this means it was grown in the Northwest) 0.33 pound Salad Mix (Cut Greens) I will probably be replacing the Sunchokes, the Mango, and the Apples. There really aren't enough greens to last me a week, even though I could replace other items with more greens. But it is possible to order additional items they offer, at extra cost. Since I've just started, I'm still comparing the difference in price/ convenience/selection with what they offer and what I shop for elsewhere. Here is the url for their CSA program: http://www.fullcirclefarm.com/details.html Blanc On Feb 15, 2008, at 9:25 AM, Caroline J. wrote: > To all, > > Are any of you guys part of CSAs? Guest guest
I use Klesick Family Farms out of Stanwood, Washington. I've been with them for years and mainly stay with them to get cases delivered at very good prices. We get the " Just Fruit " box for $23, plus two extra heads of lettuce for $4 and a case of Hamlins every week they are available, among other things as available. I know Jerrod Sessler has a co-op for produce buying. He's in the south Seattle area (near Sea-Tac airport) and would be glad to have any and all of us join him! If we can get enough interest in the north end I know he would be interested in expanding the delivery points. Jerrod? You here? Guest guest
Thank you to all that have responded. I will check out the CSAs. Shari, I am looking for both price and convenience, as I am a busy college student, so I would be interested in buying from Jerrod if he offered competitive pricing and delivered not too far from Redmond. Best wishes, Caroline

Guest guest
Shari, I’m interested in Jerrod’s co-op. Can you send me his contact info? HYPERLINK " mark " mark I also might be interested in what Klesick has to offer. Also, if anybody knows great places to buy produce by the case, let me know. Currently I am buying bananas and tomatoes by the case from Shoreline Central Market. I get 1/3 off on bananas and ½ off on Roma tomatoes. I bought some mangos from them too, but I only got something like a 10% discount when I bought a case. Thanks. Mark
