Guest guest
Dear Lynda, Thank you for bringing attention to the issue of cost disparity for foods. Junk food and unhealthy food is often subsidized in the US. You wrote in your article " Healthier foods getting more costly, study says " at http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004053526_food05m.html that for a budget-minded shopper they should note that frozen and canned food is as good as raw fresh food. One big one: Go for frozen and canned vegetables and soups, which often have the same nutritional value at a lower cost. " Fresh is a middle-class obsession, " Drewnowski said. I just could not believe I read this statement in your paper. This just isn't true: Frozen and canned do NOT have the same nutritional value at all as raw food. According to the Raw Network of Washington http://.org : " studies have shown that eating live, enzyme-rich foods contain resources that can alleviate many illnesses, prevent many health problems, and strengthen the immune system. Raw foods can help you achieve a stable body-mass index, clear skin, more energy, and can help to minimize a range of common illnesses, from the flu to obesity- related illnesses. " Studies supporting this can be found here: http://.org/resources/research.htm Did you know the government has plans for the pasteurization of fresh greens grown in this country and that as of September almonds now are mandatory to pasteurize? You should really run a story on this issue. Regarding the almonds, check out this video telling of a business man who goes all the way to Italy to find almonds for his customers: Daniel Johnson Ravenna district, Seattle Raw Network of Washington http://.org , member Raw wiki founder, http://raw.wikia.com Organic Living Party, http://organicparty.org
