Guest guest
I recently went to LA to attend a wedding. I brought some Washington apples with me. I shared an apple I bought in U-district farmers market with my friend. She said she had never had an apple so delicious. I said of course, you can only get these apples in Washington. We are so blessed with all these varieties of wonderful apples because Washington state has the best climate and soil for the apples. We don't see these apples in the super markets. Only the small family farms grow these varieities. I really enjoy sampling them all in the U-district farmers market. There are Prairie Spy, Orange Cox Pippin, Spitzenburg, King David, Elstar, Empire, Nick-nack, etc and of course, Fuji, Gala and Cameo... My favorite is Spitzenburg. It has a very rich flavor. It made a cameo appearance in Whole Food once and the price was $4.99/#. The one impressed my friend in LA was Elstar. Elstar has a fragrant aroma. It's my daughter's favorite and I love it too. BTW, although the U-district farmers market runs year round, for a lot of farms tomorrow is the last day this year. So, it's last chance to stock up with apples. Apples store well. Some, like Cameo and Empire(?) turn even sweeter after a while. Helen
