Guest guest
Hi everyone, Recently I posted suggesting that people consider a monthlong program with zero overt fats. About 14 months ago (August 2006 CE), Bob Farrell, cofounder of the PathOfHealth discussion group, did just that and published several posts about his experience along the way. Following is Bob's last post, published upon reaching his stated goal of one month eating zero overt fats. Enjoy! Elchanan _____ NOF goal - month of August Wrap-up! The month is over! Yeah!!!! Here's how it went: no nuts, no seeds, one excursion, with a oil in a salad dressing that I failed to order on the side, no avocado, no coconuts and no durian. I also had a " tiny bit " (only that that escaped " capturing " ) of some type of shredded cheese that was on a salad, when I'd eaten out at dw's work colleagues. Note that both times were when I was eating out: interesting. Other than that, I offer the following: 1. At the beginning, before I had made my " public declaration " , I had ZERO idea if I could do anything like this at all, and was, frankly, a little nervous about it; worked out grand! 2. Initially, I " missed " the fat - that wore off as the month progressed; 3. I had planned a longer short fast for near the end of the month, which also came off; (see additional post regarding that); 4. Visual cues were still tempting; for example, I keep my nuts/seeds in the freezer in containers; every time I saw the freezer door open, it evoked almost " siren " calls for me. I resolved to " not open the freezer door; there is nothing in there you want/need.... " That helped me...and then I added avoiding being around when others were going in there - that also helped. 5. I'm planning my " reentry " to fats now, and developing a plan for how much, when, quantity, etc...etc.. on a more permanent basis. I plan to make significant, permanent changes. All in all, pleased with how the experiment went. Hope others also got something out of it, either vicariously, or on your own. best, Bob
