Introduction - Kids and Raw Foods?

Hello!

My name is Kara, and I am new to the raw foods diet. I've done a lot of

reading (nearly every book I could get through the public library)...bought

a juicer, dehydrator, and blender...and I load up on local, fresh, organic

produce weekly at the farmers' market near my house. I also shop at Madison

Market and PCC pretty regularly. Right now, I'm about 80% raw - I have days

where I'm all raw, days where I'm mostly raw, and days when I slip into old

habits. My three kids are more than enthusiastic about going raw, and they

want to try ALL the recipes in the books! (But alas, my 3-year-old still

begs constantly for " toast with butter " , and I haven't the experience to

know what kind of raw alternatives might suit her craving.)

I'm in mid-divorce, raising these three unschoolers on my own, and could use

some advice and support. No extra funds to hire a raw chef to kick-start my

uncooking skills. (Although I would be willing to offer a free room, or

some counseling, or some childcare, for a raw chef's help!) I've been

intentionally transitioning very slowly to raw foods, because I want to

avoid a very shocking detox experience - I couldn't put my kids through

that! It's getting easier to go raw as I get practice at it, BUT I could

use some raw friends. Grown-up raw friends for me, maybe some little raw

friends for my kids. I'm looking to make this a life-long change with no

regrets, and I think being part of a community of raw foodists could help us

get there.

We'd be happy to host a raw/vegan potluck for down-to-earth

family-friendly folks - we have a backyard, a scrawny little veggie garden,

and three pet chickens. We live with my brother, who isn't vegetarian or

raw, so we welcome all types. Please email me if you're interested!

Thanks for creating this resource!
