Chicken wings and deep-fried mozzarella sticks didn’t faze her, either. In fact, she and her husband, Dan, regularly enjoyed a Friday night ritual of greasy spoon fare at their friendly neighborhood bar. ....Julie said, “I had been reading a lot about nutrition and how it impacts health, and so I just stepped it up a notch. I didn’t just want to help Dan lose weight, I wanted our whole family to eat better. I learned how the heat of cooking practices can kill so many of the nutrients that are beneficial to us. This became very important to me, and my interest in ‘raw foods’ was born.” And so a seed was planted, one that eventually gave life to “The Raw Deal,” a unique fresh-foods eatery that is now housed in the former Legacy Chocolates building. In case anyone else is interested in visiting the place it's a few miles from EauClaire.
