Can you really do that? Ask the produce manager of a grocery store to

order a case of fruit just for you? And in overripe state? I can't

help but think I'd get a " huh? " in reply, even at Whole Foods.

Yes, just as surely as you can ask a wait-person to hold the mayo. IF the

distributor(s) used by the produce manager has the product, in most cases

they are very accommodating. Some may give case discounts, ask. Whole Foods

is usually 10%. Note that the produce manager can ASK re: ripeness, but it

depends what the distributor has and sends.

In many areas, WF has its own distribution system (warehouses). But

sometimes they can still place orders, they are financially incentivized to

create happy customers. Make sure they know that such action will have such

effect! :):)

Best to all,

Elchanan

Even at our local food chain, Publix (which, I think is like the 6th

largest food retailer in the US, concentrated in the SE US) will

order me cases of organic produce. They don't discount, so I balance

that with driving the 17 miles each way to another " health food " type

store..to get the 10% discount..

I've been working with the local store produce manager on expanding

his organic produce offerings, he's accomodating, he ordered in some

nice strawberries recently. I continue to work with him on getting

the organic bananas " displayed " - currently stores them in the back,

and I have to ask for them every single time I go in...silly...

and, an interesting aside, whilst I was discussing the need to get

them displayed, as he'd brought me out the remains of a case that

were really too ripe for even me, and I told him that I didn't want

it spoil, since that was not good for either of us, he explained to

me, that as long as he sold 50% of them, he broke even and was happy,

as long as I was..of course, I asked if he could sell 100% of them,

how much of price break could I get? he only smiled..

all the best,
