I was thinking about posting on Fuhrmann or McDougall's vegsource sites and asking for their take on grains. Thought it would be a good idea to get " the other side of the story " and compare. But after reading your post (which I realize has nothing to do with grains), I thought: This just " rings true " . There is no sense wasting my time with " the other side " , getting confused, etc. It just makes sense that herbs, vitamins, coffee, etc. can NOT heal. They can UNDO what's been done. Thanks for your many wonderful posts. Glenda _____ Hi Glenda and all, There are three sources of calories: proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Without consuming lots of protein powder or egg whites, no one can really eat more than 20% of calories from protein, usually close to 15%. So this means the other 85% must come from some combination of carbs and fats. Years ago, Dr. Pritikin set out to " conquer " heart disease, and he succeeded to a large degree. He realized that a high-fat diet was the culprit (Actually, it was the protein that accompanied the fat, but that was discovered a bit later.) So he knew his patients/clients had to get their calories from carbs. But at that time, the world was all aquiver about sugar (and still is), and few were distinguishing types and sources of sugar, so Pritikin directed his patients/clients to eat lots of complex carbs. That basically meant potatoes and grains. Pritikin's program eventually failed, but not over heart disease. You see, grains are very acid-forming in the human body, and his patients/clients all experienced arthritis instead of heart disease. There are animals whose natural design accommodates consumption of grains (aka, grass seeds). Primarily, these animals are known as " birds. " They have gullets, in which the seeds may sprout (germinate), and they have gizzards (not stomachs) in which the seeds may be ground up and digested. Although I have never given myself a stem-to-stern endoscopic examination, to the best of my knowledge I have a gullet-and-gizzard deficiency, so by design I am not equipped to digest grains. There are MANY reasons for avoiding grains, just scratching the surface here. Best to all, Elchanan -- ------------------------ [ SECURITY NOTICE ] ------------------------ rawfood , rawschool .
