Guest guest
Hi Blake, Bob, Nora, et al, I deleted all of what Blake and Bob wrote previously, in deference to those who receive the digests. I love what has already been written, and I have only a few additional comments and two suggested modifications. First, the modifications, because I wish to be sure you (Blake in particular) get to see these. 1. Bob hinted as a possible fast, but I would not recommend it just now. My reason is not physical but rather psychological. Fasting and eating are two distinct activities. If one enters a fast with high hopes and much determination, one may indeed complete a nice fast and attain many benefits -- only to lose it all during the 30-60 days following the fast. Blake, and for others who may be reading, most of what is useful to know about fasting is simply not written down in ANY publication of which I am aware. There are indeed books available, and they are indeed filled with much information. But that information will simply not enable most people to fast successfully on their own. Particularly where there is any pattern of binging and purging, or some other significant indication of chronic, systematic self-abuse with food, some form of education and direct work with an experienced fasting coach/supervisor is likely to raise your chances of long-term success. Further, you are unlikely to realize lasting success with fasting REGARDLESS of who may support you until you FIRST work out your relationship with food. Please believe me when I tell you that fasting followed by regression is NOT fun and NOT good for the self-esteem. 2. Bob also mentioned cantaloupes, I'd pay a lot of attention. If these are even slightly underripe, you will likely find the results unpleasant, given where you are. Okay, now for a few comments. What I really wish to focus on here is the meaning of " symptoms. " I plan to write more " soon, " but in the meanwhile, here are a few thoughts. 1. All symptoms, physical and emotional, are our system's attempt at solutions. Attack the symptom, you attack your system's own solution. 2. All symptoms, physical and emotional, are messengers from our system to our conscious mind/awareness. This means that cravings, binge-and-purge patterns, energy ups-and downs, etc. are al symptoms, NOTHING MORE> Attack the symptom, you attack not only your system's solution but also your own internal communication, you destroy your chance to notice and then " listen to " your own system. Therefore...appreciate your symptoms. Embrace them, give thanks for them to whatever cosmology you hold sacred. Observe them, experience them -- that you may resolve whatever lies beneath them once and all. Never " get rid of " anything (symptoms, I mean). Explore and discover what they mean, then respond (vs. react) to that. That's all, folks!
