I always have bananas and strawberries with no problem... but E got me thinking about my system and if it is cleaned out enough... that it would let me know if I ate something wrong... Here we have a problem of oversimplification. Yes, all berries are considered acid fruits, as are all citrus, tomatoes, kiwis, etc. But the type, concentration (strength), and quantity of acid vary, and therefore so do the effects in food combining. In the case at hand, many people experience choppy sailing with combinations of sweet fruits with citrus, yet some of these people do seem to experience relatively smoother sailing when combining sweet fruits with berries. However, as one's overall health and vitality improve, ones digestive " fire " increases or strengthens. As this occurs, one's system increasingly rejects all " improper " combinations, and in fact, you can use the degree to which your system rejects such combinations as a rough barometer of your progress toward ever better health and vitality. You also mention " plaque, " and I do want to take a moment to respond specifically on that point. Vendors of colon and intestinal cleanses speak ad nauseum about " plaque " in the digestive tube. Yet in 100% of cases where I or anyone I know has talked with a GI surgeon or surgical nurse, people who literally are looking inside diseased and damaged guts every day of the week, they ALL report no plaque. They only observe pink tissue, sometimes inflamed, sometimes swollen, sometimes showing other damage (e.g., diverticuli), but NEVER hardened plaque. This makes sense, if there really were all that hardened plaque in there, the digestive tube would become blocked and we would die rather quickly and unpleasantly. So if not plaque, then what? Imagine a stream, water flowing beautifully down from the mountains, downward, downward, eventually through your backyard. Now imagine, upstream from you, that someone begins dumping heavy solids into the stream. The moving water carries these solids along, but portions of the material are deposited on the bottom and sides of the stream,all along the way. Eventually this buildup begins to thicken into a sort of sludge, forcing the moving water into the center of the channel. This creates an effect much like rapids, the water moves faster, the water pressure increases, and sludge continues to build up. Note that there are really only two ways to remove all this sludge: stop dumping toxins in upstream, so that the moving water can gradually pick up the material and carry it out to sea. This is Nature's process, slow but ultimately perfect in every way. The other alternative is to dredge the stream, which means to perform surgery and dig it out (colostomy), build a new channel (bypass), or the like. Adding more toxins to the stream (herbs, cleanses) does not result in removing toxins from the stream. PRINCIPLE: ONE CANNOT REDUCE TOXICITY IN THE BODY BY ADDING TOXINS TO THE BODY. A similar circumstance can and often does occur in people's digestive (intestinal) tracts. All cooked foods and many raw foods are substantially dehydrated. As a result, the digestive system is always " running behind " the incoming food, redirecting water from every cell in the body toward the digestive system, every time most people eat. There is obviously a lag time involved. Further. some of the materials we ingest are sufficiently heavy, toxic, etc. that our body cannot move them through safely all at once. Sludge begins to form along the digestive tube walls, and an ever-narrowing channel remains open through the center. However, pressure in this channel increases due to the narrowing. In addition, the sludge along the walls blocks or at least impairs access between nutrients in solution in the center of the channel and the villae along the intestinal wall, through which absorption takes place. Absorption and assimilation decline, cravings and addictive patterns increase. This whole, repeating process results in a steady decline in health, energy, and overall vitality, until eventually we purchase a " diagnosis " and begin considering " treatment(s). " Of course, as with our stream, we can go the way of Nature -- stop putting the trash in, and allow the system to remove the existing trash until it is all gone -- or we can use more forceful approaches, such as drugs (including herbs and the like) and/or eventually surgery. There is no difference. This is the point, in a sense, of fractal geometry -- all systems in Nature, however large or small, follow the same general set of patterns, structures and flows, energy exchanges, etc. PRINCIPLE: THE BODY CLEANSES ITSELF. And finally, please understand, the fruits and veggies are no more responsible for removing the sludge than is the caterpillar outside your window. The body cleanses itself; if we can all get this one single point, we will make a quantum leap in our understanding of health, and in our ability to distinguish creating health from treating symptoms/diseases/etc. Creating health and treating symptoms are mutually exclusive approaches toward living. All cleansing and building in the body accelerate in response to any improvement in rest. Therefore, what the body needs are resources (fuel and other nutrients) and rest -- the opportunity to apply those resources toward cleaning house and building up the system. Whenever we improve our diet in ANY way, large or small, we give the body a RELATIVE bit of rest. This is why people often rave about diets that would make most RFs cringe. Those people really ARE experiencing improvements in their energy, health, vitality. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2005 Report Share Posted June 2, 2005 The information below seems to be a contradiction ... seems you are just using different words.. plaque or sludge same thing... the walls get built up with something and pressure begins.. same thing...the nutrients still are not being used by the body with whatever word you chose to use... But thank you for answering this question.. sludge or plaque either way .... Is it ever possible that someone could feel maybe some of this stuff moving through veins?? there are time when my arm feels like I have a lump moving and slight pain.. then it goes away... no other ill effects at the time... Well... the question about how long it takes was not answered.. if one is 49 and eated badly there probably is a bunch of sludge there right?? especially if the dr says your blood numbers are high in triglycerides and such..
