Guest guest
Hello, all, I feel compelled to respond to the question of young coconut water and it’s use during WWII in the Pacific. My reference are my parents and sister, as citizens of the Philippines, who survived 3 years of conflict and were even caught in the middle of the Battle for Manila, which was bloody and devastating. As a side note, for those of you who don’t know, the worse destroyed city in WW II was Warsaw; the second worse was Manila, which has never recovered. I asked my mother some time ago if it was true, to the best of her knowledge, that young coconuts were used as IVs during WW II, and she said “yes†and further explained how it saved many lives. (She's 90, and you can ask her yourself via TTY :-) Also, I was in Manila’s Chinatown, Binondo, many years ago. Exhausted from and hour + of walking and the heat, my cousin, who is a native and truly a non-health interested person, suggested we get refreshed. Out of the fridge in a tiny store, he got a small sealed transparent plastic glass of young coconut water with some of the jelly inside. It was a manufactured drink, btw. He said it’s what they drink to regain energy. I believe young coconut water is wonderfully rejuvenating and has beneficial properties beyond our mere understanding. Pat 415 505-5960 PS I’ve water fasted on 3 occasions for a total of 71 days at TWC over a 25 month period and still have difficult staying 100% raw. I’m open to in-person discussions, if anyone wants to exchange numbers and support, because I could use it. Thanks much. rawfood Message: 7 Sat, 28 May 2005 11:14:05 -0400 " lane lynn " <lanie Re: Re: Good things (To Add - Kay) Interesting. I don't seem to do well on greens, and now limit myself to a little tender fresh lettuce. I read recently in a book by Joel Fuhrman that Lupus patients can't have several greens. I forget which ones right now. I have lupus so this may be why, although I don't really have it now, due to this life style. Some people swear by wheat grass juice buy I know it is not for me. I can't remember how much I was drinking - but as much as hands could obtain and crack open for me! It WAS like " tube feed " for me. Gradually I was able to eat blended papaya (my other " life food " !) Mangoes and some bananas. The next thing I introduced was steamed yams and a little avocado. My weight quickly came up by 14lb. It is interesting to note that all that green " stuff " (energy soup/salads and seed cheeses) were the very foods that took my weight down. I became so ill I could just not digest it. It was only then, given the choice - i turned to fruit. To this day I swear it was that coconut water that got me through the " storm " ! Not long after a friend brought me a VERY young puppy who had obviously strayed his mother's " nest " (so to speak) He was pretty much washed up, as discovered on the shore. Dogs were not allowed at the Institute; I was living in a beach house across the road. I gave the young puppy much the same food as I had done for myself. There was nothing meat based or otherwise to feed him on in anycase. The puppy ALSO recovered weight quickly and became my best pal for the duration of my stay (4 months) Well, I just thought I would share that healing story Peace x Kay rawfood , " Annette " <cloudriver> wrote: rawfood , " lane lynn " <lanie@p...> wrote: The fellow at the place I got it, said coconut water is almost identical to blood plasma and that they used it for blood transfusions in the war when they ran out of blood. Has anyone heard of this? __ [copied from http://www.living-foods.com/] " It's a natural isotonic beverage, with the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood. It's the fluid of life, so to speak. " In fact, during the Pacific War of 1941-45, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water - siphoned directly from the nut - to give emergency plasma transfusions to wounded soldiers. Most coconut water is still consumed fresh in tropical coastal areas - once exposed to air, the liquid rapidly loses most of its organoleptic and nutritional characteristics, and begins to ferment. * Coconut Water is More Nutritious than whole milk - Less fat and NO cholesterol! * Coconut Water is More Healthy than Orange Juice - Much lower calories * Coconut Water is Better than processed baby milk- It contains lauric acid, which is present in human mother's milk * Coconut water is naturally sterile -- Water permeates though the filtering husk! * Coconut water is a universal donor-- Its identical to human blood plasma * Coconut Water is a Natural Isotonic Beverage - The same level we have in our blood. * Coconut water has saved lives in 3rd world countries thru Coconut IV. " Coconut water is the very stuff of Nature, biologically Pure, full of Natural Sugars, Salts, and Vitamins to ward off fatigue... and is the next wave of energy drinks BUT natural! " , according to Mortin Satin, Chief of the United Nation's Food & Agriculture Organization. Coconut water contains more potassium (at about 294 mg) than most sports drinks (117 mg) and most energy drinks. Coconut water has less sodium (25mg) where sports drinks have around 41mg and energy drinks have about 200 mg! Coconut water has 5mg of Natural Sugars where sports and energy drinks range from 10-25mg of Altered Sugars. Coconut water is very high in Chloride at 118mg, compared to sports drinks at about 39mg. Data is based on a 100ml drink.
