[RawFoodChallenge] Help! I want to strangle my Mom!

OK, since I've been on to raw food, my Mom keeps trying to sabatoge me!

She says, " A little cooked every once in a while won't hurt. " I countered,

" The

more I eat, the more I want. It's like trying to eat one Hershey's Kiss! "

Then she says, " Cooked tomatoes are better than raw ones, anyway, more

minerals are accessable. " I just try to stay neutral, with an " MmmHmm "

She is a vegetarian and *should* understand! What if I told her, " It's just

a little

hunk of meat! " She'd flip out!

Now she wants to take me out for dinner on my birthday and says " No

pressure,

because I know you want to stay raw, but how about dinner at the Taquerria? "

(a

mighty fine mexican restuarant, and I cannot resist mexican food, it has

always

been my favorite and she knows it!) I want to slap her (lovingly, of

course!).

I'm either thinking of Sweet Tomatoes (a salad-bar style restuarant) I'd

have to

bring my own dressing, and it is not organic. But it is also an hour drive.

I don't

think she'll want to drive that far, but I don't want to go to one of my

" regular " resturants, becuause I don't think I could resist and just order a

salad.

And in 45 more minutes, there is a Raw restuarant, but I don't think I could

convince her to drive that far...

Or else, we are going to a farmer's market wednesday and I thought about

asking her if she would get the ingredients and make me a yummy raw pie.

On that note, she is throwing a " Summertime " party the day before my B-day

and won't make any raw food except a salad and fruit! I have to make and

bring

my own. All the food there will be veg or vegan and I put RAW on the

invites,

too, but I don't think anyone will bring raw.

What do you think? Help me reason with my mom!

Hi Kristi,

In my opinion, it's time for some real " sacrilege. " Where in the Law of

Nature is it written that birthdays must be celebrated over food? Or, for

that matter, that ANY of the bezillion milestones, working meetings, social

occasions, etc. we have been taught to associate with food actually IS so

associated?

I suggest that you simply break this already nonexistent dependency

relationship between " birthday " and " restaurant. " Go play miniature golf

with your mom, then complete your birthday celebration with a bowl of fruit.

You provide the fruit, let her bring the candle(s). After all, it IS written

in the Law of Nature that birthdays require the burning of candles, is it

not?

(There are raw cake recipes, but frankly, they are all time consuming and

often not that good anyway, in my experience. Just go natural.)

Best,

Elchanan
