It's not so very different from the way I've been eating except for the no nuts, seeds, fats, dates, or oils. I'm wondering whether people have some good ideas for salad dressings to use during this week. Even in the Natural Hygiene recipe books, avocado is used in most of them. I know Elchanan suggested to me that a mango whizzed up is good poured on salad. I love Romaine and won't have a problem with it. I also have a big bag of organic " Baby Greens " which still taste a bit too rural for me to eat on their own. Hi, Annette, I will sometimes blend a little banana with berries, mango, pineapple, etc. to use on my greens when I am not using nuts or avocado. Makes it a little creamy and sweet. Bob Farrell Monday, May 30, 2005 7:57 PM [Raw Food] Re: Oil-Free Salad Dressings? for oil and fat and nut free dressing, I suggest: ~5 parts tomato ~1 parts lemon/lime - all except the peel and the seeds ~1 part cucumber water to make consistency you like your dressing -- if not " tangy " enough - add more lemon/lime.. _____ Greetings Annette, Denise, Valerie, Bob, and all, Denise, Valerie, and Bob you are definitely on the right track here. But perhaps it's time for a little more sacrilege. (See my post yesterday about birthdays and food.) Where in the Law of Nature is it written that salads must be " dressed " ? Why not pursue the idea of whole foods a step farther? Examples: - Instead of squeezing that orange over the salad, peel the orange (remove the rind), then cut up the flesh and sprinkle it into the salad. - Instead of blending up some fruits, take ONE fruit (simplify) and cut that fruit up into the salad. I find that many people do well to try strawberries first (assuming they are good strawberries and fully ripe, little or no " white " showing at the tops). One of the disadvantages of relying upon salad dressings is, well, relying upon them! By cutting up bits of whole fruit, you create more sensation of variety for yourself -- you never which bites will or will not contain some fruit. Also, you begin training yourself off salad dressing, which is one of many steps we can take along the path of simplification. One more example: - Go heavy on cut up tomatoes, and cut them fairly small (diced or perhaps a bit larger, for those with the culinary knowledge to understand " diced). The " juice " in the tomatoes will moisten the entire salad, and you'll have a nice little " drink " at the end. Again, all whole foods, all require chewing, all signal the body more clearly via the mouth than would their liquefied counterparts. Best to all, Elchanan PS In Bob's recipe above, try adding a bit of sundried tomato to the brew! -- ------------------------ [ SECURITY NOTICE ] ------------------------ rawfood . Guest guest
Hi, Elchanan, I know you are right, but so far, any attempts to eat my greens undressed (except for celery) have been unpleasant so far. For some reason, most lettuce greens stick to my teeth, and I need something besides a little juice from the addition of fruit or tomatoes to make the chewing effective without driving me up the wall. So this, at least for now, remains one of my compromises. :-) Peace, Valerie " INFO @ Vibrant Life " <VLinfo wrote: Denise, Valerie, and Bob you are definitely on the right track here.
