Rhetorical question:

What is Sarasota, chopped liver?

Here's a letter I sent to the CEO of Whole Foods:

Re: Sarasota store needs a Raw Foods bar

Dear Mr. Mackey,

I’m thrilled that Whole Foods Market opened a store last year in Sarasota.

Since the store opened, I have been asking the prepared foods department to

start making some raw foods recipes, or to hire a local raw chef (and I know

several here in town) to oversee the making of such recipes. They keep telling

me they are not ready yet.

I see that you have a raw foods bar in your new showcase Austin store. I

know that my instincts are correct about adding one here in Sarasota. I’m

very

good in predicting what will work. When I moved here from Manhattan two

and a half years ago, I called the Aerosoles shoe company to suggest that they

open a store here in the Southgate Mall (Bee Ridge and 41). The closest

Aerosoles store at the time was an hour’s drive from here, in Tampa. They

took

my advice and now there is a beautiful Aerosoles store in the Southgate Mall

and they are doing very well!

I am the founder and editor of the online magazine RawFoodsNewsMagazine.com

and I have witnessed a growing raw foods community in this town. For example,

a raw chef used to make catered raw dinners every month and had a waiting

list of people who wanted to attend. (She had to stop the dinners when she gave

birth to her third child.) In addition, the owner of a fabulous

out-of-state raw food restaurant bought a house here last year. I know that

Sarasota

is ripe for a place where raw foods enthusiasts can go to get freshly prepared

raw food recipes, things like Jackie Graff’s raw (non-dairy) coconut ice

cream and Roxanne Klein’s Coconut Noodle Pad Thai.

I urge you to open a raw foods bar in the Sarasota Whole Foods Market!

Sincerely,

Judy Pokras

Hey folks,

Just a quick note to tell everybody that from today on, Wholefoods will

carry

fresh, non treated durian in all stores in Southern Califonia, Nevada and

Arizona every week. The durian is sold as pulp only and comes in little

containers that weight slightly over one pound.

Enjoy!
