We love having Newbies join us -- the more the better! There is so much great information available on the internet about the " raw feeding philosophy. " You'll be able to gather tons of information that will help you on this journey, and we'll do our best to be as helpful as possible. I'm not an authority, nor do I have much first-hand knowledge on whether raw eaters are prone to eating disorders. I " suffer " with my eating disorder when I'm not raw. There is so much guilt-free food available to the raw food person that a number of the reasons for an anorexic to not eat or a bulemic person to purge are void. In the beginning, until you have more experience and knowledge " under your belt, " this may seem like an extreme way of life because it varies from what the majority is doing. As Elchanan (one of the more experienced posters here) reminded me, we don't want the same health issues that the majority are suffering, so perhaps it's best to not follow them in their eating habits. For me, social situations have been the challenge. I am slowly learning to repattern myself. Again, welcome. I hope you find good information and support here. Annette _____ Hi Pat, and welcome!!! I do not have your original post before me, so I hope my comments are " on target " for you. In general, raw food, in and of itself, has nothing to do with behavior patterns labeled as " eating disorders. " Although I have found that changes in diet can bring about some perceived improvement, such improvement is, frankly, usually temporary. I suggest an entirely liberating approach. First, discard all use of the terms " anorexia " or " bulimia " or whatever other diagnostic label has been sold to you. Simply eliminate all notions of " eating disorders " from your vocabulary and, eventually, from your belief system. I suggest this, because these are merely labels assigned to certain behavior patterns, in order to trigger treatments, medications, programs, and, ultimately, payment for all the above. But you you are a woman, a child of the Creation (as your beliefs would have it). You are not any label, and all such labels tend to dehumanize us through fractional thinking and by creating a sense of failure, inadequacy, and so forth. And you certainly do not need any further diagnoses or treatments or medications, as none of these will serve you constructively, and in fact they are all directly and overtly harmful to your physical health and your overall well-being. Rather than look for solutions in food, I suggest that you make a clear and conscious choice to face, REALLY face, whatever unresolved emotional and/or spiritual issues you " act out " by abusing yourself with food. I do not mean this harshly, but rather honestly, for only those with the courage and self-confidence to address you honestly can possibly help you in any way at all. If you wish to pursue this line of thinking further, please do write again. I am happy to pursue this in greater depth and breadth with you.
