" This is why supplements, cleanses, etc. are all exercises in futility, in the long run, and such " remedies " always impair the body in some way. In response to the conditions we create, by virtue of our free will, the body applies all its vast innate intelligence Very interesting post thank you, but I am just curious about one thing and that is where you say cleanses are an exercise in futility. I believe fasting is one of the ways the body looks after itself and cleanses itself of toxins. Could you explain please how cleanses always impair the body in some way? Thank you. Persian _____ Greetings Persian, and thank you for pointing out this important distinction. By cleanses, I mean concoctions -- master cleanse, colon, liver, and gall bladder cleanses, and so forth. Each and all such programs represents an application of external force upon the body, trying to " make the body cleanse " somehow. In contrast, I perceive fasting first, as an act of faith, and second, as an act of rest. By faith, I mean that we make a conscious choice to " turn over the reins, " to return control of our activity to our system's divinely guided innate intelligence for some period of time. We do this by cessation of eating and by reduction of as many other forms of activity as possible. In other words, we consciously choose to reduce the body's " routine " workload by resting the digestive system, and we may also choose to rest other parts of the system by reducing or eliminating television watching, computer use, socializing, and so forth, and by replacing such activities with increased sedentary rest. All cleansing and building of new cells and tissues in the body occurs during some form of rest. Ask any body builder, he/she will surely tell you that the body builds new lean tissue (muscle, bone, ligament) BETWEEN, not DURING, workouts. When we fast, we simply create a deeper form of rest than is typically the case in our day-to-day lives. The body responds by cleansing and by building new cells and tissues, among other things. Hope this is a bit more complete, and again, thanks for the great follow-up question!
