Lane -- Hi Lane.. how often I eat greens? I'd say, most days...meaning that my " usual " routine these days is fruit stuff for breakfast/brunch/lunch (could be one or two meals, depends...) and then a veggy salad for dinner: I'd say 3-4 times per week, this veggy-based salad will contain either nuts/seeds (usually " sprotued/soaked " ) OR avocado - I'm avoiding the avo/nut/seed combination - I find that it's way too heavy for me. the other nights of the week, it may be just veggies: like lettuce (Romaine/Cos (organic) is a staple for me...), probably some young, tender, mixed field greens (organic/wild), some celery (organic), some cucumbers (not always organic...peeled if not...), some tomatoes, either vine-ripened or grape tomatoes (organic), maybe some zucchini (organic) once a week or so... for a " wild " night, I'll drizzle some lemon (organic) insides, no seeds, both the fruit and juice, on my salad. By dinner time (aiming successfully to have it complete before 8pm...), I've normally consumed the " bulk " of my calories before that time. Most/all of those calories will have been from fruits, with bananas being a staple, with dates right up there with them. I envision that shifting as melons come more into season. I've got a tiny patio orchard/garden started: it currently has some bell peppers coming on, some lemons, some limes thinking about it, some tomatoes just showing themselves, and some cukes struggling. My soil is probably not right, and I've ordered a Brix meter to start getting after that... For me, sweet fruits are the key during the day: my body needs lots of calories, and sweet fruits supply them simply, and nicely. and is the Banana the perfect fruit? don't know...but it's plenty close enough for me... you may remember from earlier posts that I play a lot of tennis. If I'm playing tennis in the evening, I break my " 8pm rule " and take along my own homemade " Fruitade " - made with water, bananas, and celery, all blended. I'm at this point not as concerned about the vitamin value, as I am the energy content (bananas) and the electrolytes (celery), and it works out great. and this one thanks to Doug Graham's Athlete book, referenced earlier...not sure how long it would have taken me to figure that one out on my own, if ever! re: that smoothie -- you might want to try some more " rigid " food- combining for a couple/few days, and see if that makes any difference. My experience is that all aspects of life are cumulative: sub-optimal food combining might be " borderline ok " , meaning no obvious dis-ease symptoms one day, and then on other day, where I had other Life challenges, it may just be the straw that broke the camel's back. Not knowing what may be lurking around the corner for me on any given day, I concentrate on controlling some of the simple things that I can control easily: like food-combining. I now find that it takes very little effort to get my food-combining almost optimal. For example, today (it's now 1pm ish...) I've had one (1) whole Mamey Sapote. (and that was a bigmotherpieceoffruit...I'm guessing close to 2 pounds....only about 431 Kcal, I think...) and since I know that's all I've had, I know that I don't have any wasted " food-combining " energy thus far today... (but who know what choices I might make later! lol!) How many calories are you eating in a day....keep up the fruits, the greens are *never* going to add any substantial energy/calories. From an earlier post I'd made, if I am not getting the outcomes I desire, then I need to make different choices. For me, this is not about being right or wrong: it's about making working vs. non-working choices. If my outcome is wrong, I've somewhere made a non-working choice. I continue to work to align my choices with my desired outcomes. If I'm making a whole bunch of non-working choices, narrowing down which one(s) might be the culprit may take a little detective work! lol! In this same vein, I make sure that I'm exercising: it's no longer an option for me, I just do it...it supports me, and for every minute that I exercise I need that same amount less amount of sleep, roughly; so I always have time...etc...etc... Hope this answers your question. be glad to chat more... all the best, Bob
Guest guest
Thanks so much Bob.That helped a lot! I loved that fruitade. What a good idea. I had already kind of decided I am going to try the smoothie without the nuts and then have a few nuts an hour later or so if I feel I need them. I am going away for a few days to my daughter's graduation. Digression: Hey homeschoolers! Ashley will graduate from Yale on Monday and we just found out tonight we have to arrive early on Saturday for a special ceremony where she will be inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society. Go homeschooling! We were unschoolers actually....no classes, so 'subjects'. Anyway back to RF. I will try this new thing this week while I am away, and we will see. I also have been having quite a bit of watermelon lately, juice and plain eating. Is it possible it doesn't agree with me? I sure hope not. One more hint. I noticed another bruise on my leg. It seems like I am iron deficient, but I couldn't be. so hmmmm. Anyway, thanks again Bob and Happy Raw Day all.
