For example, I recently read somewhere that shredded lettuce loses like 90% of its vitamin C in one minute! that shocked me, not that I shred a lot of lettuce, and I have. soooo....the basic concept is to keep/serve/eat raw foods as close to " whole " as possible. For example, with the banana, it's optimal to peel it down a little and eat it, then peel some more, etc...vs. peeling it, cutting it into cute little rounds, and then letting it sit in a serving bowl with other pieces of cut-up fruit. I've changed my eating habits here: I used to like to slice the banana into the rounds into a bowl, and then eat it. Now, I just do as above: peel it, and eat it. much simpler, actually....and more like Bobo! I've also made some changes in how I serve/eat lettuce. I used to either cut it up (having moved from a metal knife to a plastic knife), or tear it into " bite-size " pieces to now serving it either as most of a head/half a head, etc. or just leaves of like Romaine, separated from the head, rinsed gently, and place in a bowl. I now serve tomatoes whole in a bowl (yes, I'm getting interesting looks/comments from others, if I've served theirs this way! " what's this? " ummm, that'd be a tomato....lol! The learning for me is that Vit. C is quickly oxidized upon exposure to air...and I'd rather leave the oxidation/burning for my body. seems to me that's a more optimal choice. I've even tried the " just bite into it " theory....and I must admit, that's a bit messy with tomatoes! lol! and now, I can look at a piece of food, typically fruit, and quickly ask myself: " what is the most WHOLE way to eat this? " like for my Mamey Sapote, my newest food exploration, I carefully cut around it, and then separate it like an avocado - and I put the half with the pit back in the fridge, and scoop the other half out with a plastic spoon. etc...etc.... these have all been very recent changes for me. part of it has come out of answering a private thought from Elchanan about bells going off. Part of my answer to that had been as follows: [What made a bell go off for me was taking a seminar, Premier Educational Systems, LLC, called " Values " And making a commitment to Health as one of my values, and we have since then incorporated it into our Family Values. With the definition of a value being: " …consciously chosen guiding principle that affects every area of my life.. If you do not like your results, then choose something different… " I chose to become a Raw vegetarian in late September, 2004. Since then, on February 15, 2005, I've chosen to be primarily a Frugivore.] that ends that part of the conversation with Elchanan. This process has assisted me immensely with gaining clarity: once I've chosen/committed myself, I then declare my intention. That intention then " DEMANDS massive action " . whew...I'll repost some of the above, with a different subject line, so others, who may not have read such a long post, can see it. all the best, Bob
Guest guest
Hi Bob. Could you please educate me about your becoming a frugivore. I think I was one and now I've been trying to incorporate more salads into my routine. I've been feeling pretty sick lately. Head, nausea, my old stuff. I wonder if there is a relationship or if I'm just detoxing. Like you I went raw in September 04. I prefer fruit to greens. it seems like Bobo does too. just wondering. Thanks Lane - Bob Farrell rawfood Thursday, May 19, 2005 7:18 AM LONG!Re: [Raw Food] Hygenic Considerations in The Selection of Foods rawfood , " Gypsi at www.aromaticwings.com " <aromatic_wings> wrote: > would love to get that book ..what is the name of it?? or is it a url??
