Guest guest
I have been searching for work for several weeks now - (after losing an office position) - and yesterday I was offered a full-time restaurant position - (I will be a kitchen worker) - I felt like I had to take it, for financial reasons - PLUS it is a Fulltime, Monday thru Friday, Weekday position - which is difficult to find at a restaurant - so I feel very fortunate in this area, also - I will seldom have to work evenings or weekends, which is a blessing for me. The thing is, last spring I left a restaurant position of 5-years - and was hoping to never have to return to restaurant work again - I had developed Plantars Faciitis, (very painful foot condition) and really needed to get into a different line of work, which I did. I have been out of the restaurant business now for just a little over a year - and my Plantars Faciitis has totally cleared up. Then last month I lost my office job, and have been searching for work ever since. We need my paycheck to help make ends meet, and although I have been trying, I had not found anything, until this restaurant offered me this job. So now, here I go again, back into being on my feet again all day! I know that it is just a matter of time before my feet will start bothering me again - and I will just have to cross that bridge when I come to it. This old gray mare she ain't what she used to be! LOL Anyhow - a major concern now that I have, with this new job, is that I will be working in a kitchen, helping to make all sorts of S.A.D. dishes and recipes. It is a typical S.A.D. restaurant, which means that the menu centers around meat dishes, and all sorts of cooked concoctions made with white flour, sugar, and dairy. ACK! It has been much easier for me to stay within a RFL (Raw Foods Lifestyle) when I was here at home - no temptations to deal with right under my nose - and with this new job, that is where they will be - literally! This group has been such a good influence on me, and my source for inspiration and motivation to be high percent Raw, and I just hope that I will be able to remain this way - the biggest challenge will be keeping my Raw Mindset, in the midst of S.A.D. chaous!! Guest guest
Hi Joanie, Congratulations on finding a new job. Keep in mind that during your off hours you can continue to look for a different job that you can be more comfortable in. If you can afford to do it, get a pair of Danska shoes. Surgeons and nurses wear them because they are so comfortable and they realign your spine, making it easier to stand during those long hours of surgery. It will help your feet feel better too. Maybe - just maybe - this is an opportunity for you to educate a restaurant owner about raw food and suggest (after some time) that they incorporate a few raw items on their menu. Coming right out and stating it may not work but maybe if they saw you taking your raw food into work with you, watched you eat it, etc. it could make a difference. This could be your next challenge that life offers you. Stay with the group for the positive influence you have been enjoying. I don't think the group is going anywhere. If/when you slip we're here to help you get back on your feet. Look for the positive in your new job - and remember to always, always - breathe. Good luck!!! Guest guest
Thanks Donna for the congratulations - and what you wrote all makes good sense. As far as shoes go, I have tried Dansko's and have found that the heels have a tendency to be too narrow for me - I have this tendency to want to step down " sideways " on them, which is scary, so I don't wear them. I suffer from FOF - Fear of Falling, LOL. I am accustomed to paying alot for really good, supportive shoes - I have to - and it is so worth it in the long run. New Balance, Ryka, Sketchers, Halflingers, Wolkys, Born, Birkenstocks, Etc. are what I usually look for, as far as support - but believe it or not, the best ones that I have found so far for standing and working on my feet are a pair of high-top (black leather) Sketchers. The orthotics that the podiatrist made for me fit in them nicely. These are what I am planning on wearing, but they may start to get too hot for all day wear, with summer coming on, so I may also try wearing a couple different pair of walking shoes that I have; one is New Balance, and the other is made by Ryka and is canvas - I have found that I really like canvas shoes for warmer weather. I am guessing that I will have a discounted - if not free - meal at work each day - and if so - I am hoping that they will have fresh fruit - being an " upper scale " restaurant, they just might - but not sure just yet; haven't really had a chance to look over the menu. And of course, I am sure that they will offer good green salads. I will play it by ear; my first week will be an eye-opener, I am sure. I will probably be taking at least my bananas with me for snacking, etc. But I have a hunch that I will have access to all the greens that I want - hoping so, anyhow! I will keep the group posted as to how it goes. Thanks again for your response. :-) ~ Warm Fuzzies ~ Donna <donnachagnon wrote: Hi Joanie, Congratulations on finding a new job. Hi - Kay here, ok, so I am not feeling like the most positive person on the planet just now - but I would like to give you a feeling on this one.. Please, try not to feel that you " have to take it " If there is something you would really like, then you CAN attract it into your life. However, if you take the job then don't feel you have let anyone down if you just can't hack it. Along time ago before my involvement in the " health " movement I use to love cooking. Last year, because I was at a lose end and not in a position to follow my chosen career; I worked in a busy vegeterian cafe for 4 months. Personally I couldnt hack it. The food - I became obsessional about washing the grease off my hands. Eventually when I over worked myself with long hours I began eating the food there to stimulate me. Eventually I becam ill with some kind of " virus " . Now I know that may seem very negative, but in actual fact I outwardly enjoyed serving people and always carried a bright disposition to my work place. Hope you figure out what's best for you at this time - I wish you all capability in that choice. xx
Guest guest
Kay- Thank you for the positive words. You are right, of course, about taking/keeping this position. I envy the fact that at least the restaurant where you worked was a VEGETARIAN restaurant - I would soooo welcome that! The restaurant where I will be working, although considered a " nicer, upscale restaurant " - specializes in DUCK - can you believe it?! The owners are actually the owners of a major duck processing farm/plant here in our county - which turns my stomach if I allow myself to think about it for too long. These poor ducks are " factory farmed " - they probably never even see fresh air and sunshine, let alone water to swim in - in their short lives. I am soooo against factory farming - I consider it to be " legalized cruelty " - but that is a whole different subject, and I am already getting waaaaaay off topic here, so better quit while I am ahead, LOL. Anyhow - (getting back on track here) - with my having been out-of-work for several weeks, our financial situation here at home has been becoming serious - and although I do feel like I strongly need to take this job right now - for financial reasons -I certainly do not feel like it is something that I will stay with; just not my cup of tea. Who knows how long I will be there, but I will most definatly be keeping my eyes and ears open for something else - absoloutly! I agree totally with what you are saying about how our mindsets can attract what we are wanting in our lives - and I plan to continue to strive to increase my positive energy flow in such a way that it affects not only me, but the people around me, in a good and loving way. I may " have " to be at this restaurant right now - but I have full control over how I choose to act - and react - during the time that I am there - absoloutly! Thanks for your feedback on this; it got me to thinking on a better level!
