Food] Creating health from the inside out (WAS: Save the Shark)

Elchanan writes:

One point: sharks do not hold the key to cancer, people do. I am mentioning

this, because I so want to encourage people to let go of medical-model

thinking. When we hear ourselves say that some animal or nutrient or object

holds the key to " curing " some disease, we have almost automatically bought

into:

- that there is such a disease

- that one can " have " that disease

- that the disease can be " cured "

- that the cure arises " out there somewhere "

We have been so programmed with these and similar assumptions, we slip into

them habitually. I'm encouraging everyone to become much more mindful, much

more careful in choosing our words and the thoughts and beliefs behind them.

_____

Adding to this thinking:

When we accept that a " cure " is " out there somewhere, " we presume that

someone has it, or at least may have it, and we begin looking " out there "

for this mythical cure. We diminish our sense of self-reliance, we

effectively declare ourselves dependent upon others " out there " to " make is

healthy, " or at least to " cure " whatever ails us. We transform ourselves,

one by one, into a target market for purveyors of all manner of remedies.

We have all heard, " physician, heal thyself, " and " let your food be your

medicine. " (Well, hopefully we've all heard these somewhere.) There are

people, in this group and elsewhere, who sell nothing (other, perhaps, than

public and educational services and products). These people neither offer

nor use outside remedies except in cases of trauma, and even then as

sparingly and as briefly as possible. These people are all healthy and

helping others to become healthy, each and every day.

If some of us can do this, then all of us can do this. We are all, I

believe, created equal in terms of our innate intelligence, our potential to

thrive. All we really need do is embrace ourselves fully, embrace Nature

fully, and choose our friends and associates accordingly.

Best to all,

Elchanan
