Guest guest
Hi Don, Vegigran, Poppy and others... and " top o' the morn' to y'all " <== gotta combine a little Irish with a little Southern there..and no offense meant to anyone! I'd read a " few " of the testimonials; I, frankly, didn't find them helpful. And when I got the the ones from Dr. Ralph Cinque....(I think that was the one...), I'd had about enough.. I'm, in general, looking for experiences about what people are finding that " works " , meaning is producing positive results for them, not drama and criticism about what they found that doesn't work. I'd much rather choose to be on the " working " path, vs. the " non-working " path. I agree with Poppy: we each have to see/find what works for us, and for our bodies. and whoever had mentioned about the cleansing " crises " reactions, etc..etc.., I sometimes can't tell when I'm reading anecdotal stories, at what point in that person's life that " snapshot " was taken. I normally don't have enough information to be able to form an intelligent opinion. re: the 30 bananas a day, I liked the comment...(so did Bobo! lol!) that'd probably be like 3,540 cal (from Nutridiary), if the bananas were medium, about 7-7 7/8 " , or about 118 g. each..meaning just under four of them per pound. That's way more calories than I need per day, although the calornutrient ratio comes out 92/4/4, with 36.5 grams of Protein, and ~537% of daily vit. C RDA, etc..etc...not horrible...I did *much* worse yesterday, left to my own devices, and today's a brand new day. re: some of the earlier comments/posts about apple cider vinegar, and something else suggesting to " balance " the pH of the body, I always like to think about what that means, and then go to one of my reference sources, and get some additional insight, already knowing for myself that we appear to be " meddling " in what should be the body's job (I'm convinced that my body is much smarter than I am...it knows way more than I'm ever going to know..)since one of my strong beliefs is that : we can only create Health by Healthy living. Without going " nuts " (no pun intended..lol!), I quickly found the following thoughts helpful to me: start quote " When we refer to alkaline foods, we mean foods that leave an alkaline 'ash' after metabolism - fresh fruits and vegetables, primarily, as well as some nuts and seeds. Ingestion of animal foods results in many acids, most notably uric acid, sulphuric acid and phosphoric acid. The presence of these acids causes the body's buffer systems (those organs that maintain body pH) to work extra hard, whereas the consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds does not overwork the body. The body's major buffer organs are the kidneys and the lungs. " (quick aside here: when I was ~8 years old, I, Bob, was hospitalized with acute nephritis (sp?) - kidney " disease " ; ever since I've been old enough to know better, I watch for things that put a heavy load on my kidneys, in an unkind way...and I've been drinking distilled water for over 10 years..it helps me...) and finishing up with my reference check, " Alkalosis may result from lung or kidney impairment or from overbreathing, but it does not result from consumption of too many alkaline-forming foods, as there is no such thing as to many alkaline-forming foods. These foods are our normal dietary and they always contain a proper balanace of base (alkaline) and acid minerals. Alkalosis may occur, however, if antacid preparations are frequently taken. " end quote source: one of my recent " usuals " - pp.305-6 of Life Science Course. re: apple cider, and others " acidizing " (not even sure that's a word..) things..apple cider vinegar doesn't meet *any* of my definitions of a " food " for me...it's a manufactured acid, and all of my experiences suggest to me that I don't need to be putting any " acids " in my system. my quick tests remain: how does it look? not appealing..looks a little like urine, with some mother gunk floating in the bottom.... how does it smell? hmm...not good to me... it doesn't pass this test, so I'd probably not taste it. how does it taste? awful...not good, not sweet...yuck... If I put some of this in my mouth, and swish it around, I most feel like spitting it out... can I make a meal of it? no...etc..etc.. I actually consider apple cider vinegar to be a " poison " for me and my body. Others are, naturally, entitled to different opinions. For me, this isn't about being right or wrong, just what we each have found, or are finding, that works for us, and/or others. I'm not aware of any " apple cider vinegar " trees, plants, bushes, etc...etc.. It doesn't seem " natural " to me, or, as found in Nature. As far as all the things about why some can thrive on a high raw foods diet, and some cannot, I'm not sure how to answer that. My experience and observation has shown that most, if not all, people can, do and will thrive on such a diet (recognizing that food is only one of the 19 minimum requirements for optimal health...more on that in a separate post, since I think I'd mentioned earlier that sometime I'd post one just about that...) and yes, I'm firmly convinced that we, as a people, and especially Americans (recognizing that this board can have an international flair...) are raised/conditioned to " treat " symptoms; with the symptoms typically being the body just doing its job: coordinating the something like 125 cells, in perfect unison. We have, for all of our lives, been inundated with " conditioning " about the medical model - that " something " , some foreigh agent, causes the symptoms, and then we wage war attempting to " cure " the something, the new name. (quick aside here: I have a STRONG anti-medical/medicine model bias!) That's why the medical wars/the cures never work, and never will - they're a myth, propogated by the medical/pharmaceutical communites; commercial, profit-driven. Antibiotics: multi-billion dollar business - with more sold to the livestock industry, than to people..etc..etc..ad nauseam. Soooo..if we're judging the " success " of a particular diet/lifestyle against this incorrect mental wiring about symptoms, I can see how we'd come up with " it doesn't work " . One of the keys for me in lookng at it, is " how toxic " is/was the individual when they started this new diet...what had they really been doing before? Now, it is very possible to have caused enough damage, through faulty lifestyle, that the body cannont *ever* recover. Meaning that we have caused permanent and irrepairable damage to one or more key organs. The body will always keep doing its job: repairing itself when possible, and when not possible to achieve the desired repair with available nutrients/ingredients, will begin to rob from other body organs, shutting them down completely if it has to, protecting the brain to the very end. So we know, for example, that when people develop Alzhemier's, for example [my dad essentially died from this - actually from a fall and a blood clot in the brain, but he had stage 2 Alzheimer's. Ok...one very quick story...I'm visiting my dad about a year before his death, and we're chatting, and he tells me that his doctor has told him that if he doesn't stop drinking alcohol, he'll die. I said, " Dad...they've been telling you that for years..., and you've chosen to ignore that advice for years.. " and my dad, with tears in his big, stoic, Irish eyes, replies: " yes, but I never knew the price would be this high.. " ] that the body has exhauted just about every other possibility it can think of: it is now depositing toxins in its last possible, and most important, storehouse: the brain. My belief system works around that disease is not mysterious, but that it's progressive -- it will go through its seven stages (think I'd posted about those earlier..), with the end stage being cancer. And that if we start to become healthier, it will begin to " reverse " the steps/stages..and then go back through many of the other stages, creating what can be awful " symptom " reactions. Dr. Bernard Jensen, DC, and many othes have written extensively on this. **end of soapbox...** and all of this, is just my opinion..offering my honest thoughts...and obviously, as has been recently discussed, anyone else is entitled to a different opinion. (and we've all heard how opinions compare to anatomy, yes? lol!) On the flip side, we all have *tons* of real life data about diets that do *not* work: especially the SAD, which is what I'm assuming draws many of us to this board. I'm going to go do a quick post ont the 19 factor elements. Have a great day. all the best, Bob
