Guest guest
Bob Farrell [rjf2] Wednesday, April 27, 2005 10:16 AM Re: Protein % - Human Breast Milk Hi Tev... human breast milk varies, as follows: From 8th to 11th day: 2.38% From 20th to 40th day: 1.79% From 70th to 120th day: 1.49% At the 170th day and later: 1.07% and its average Protein Percentage is described as 1.6%, and human newborns take ~180 days to double their weight vs. a calf taking 47 days with a protein of 3.5%. one of the quickest to double its weight is the cat, at 7 days, with an average protein of 9.5%. all the best, Bob source: Proteins in the Diet, by Mike Benton. From The Life Science Health System, part II: The Nutritional Bases of Life, Lesson Eight - proteins in the Diet, p. 208. _____ Oh, I was hoping this wouldn't happen. The differences between Bob's numbers, which range from 1.07-2.38%, and my numbers (separate post), which range from 6-15%, is that Bob's are based upon physical quantities, i.e., number of grams as a percentage of the total physical content of the breast milk INCLUDING the water, whereas mine are percentages of calories, i.e., percent of calories from only the carbohydrate/protein/fat components of the milk. The numbers above give a misleading picture, as well. The percent of protein does not decline in steps, it is not nearly so precise or orderly, but rather gradually and continuously throughout the first 6 months or so. After the 6th month, the percentage is PRESUMED to remain constant, but this is not well-verified. Also, please don't take either of our numbers very seriously, the actual data collected in this area are much too fragmented and generally too erratic in quality to make strong statements. We would think otherwise, but it just ain't so. (Actually, this is the case for most of the so-called " nutritional science " out there, but it's hard to find " scientists " who will admit it publicly. Privately, another matter altogether!)
