Guest guest
Hi Leslie, I just started feeding my toy poodle raw too, so I'm not experienced in anyway. It is a learning process. I know they have to have a balance of meat/organs/bone. Most feel that the 80/10/10 is desirable. Not too much different from us huh! Anyway I started with red meat cut up or ground. And she did have the runs for about three days. So I got brave and gave her chicken with the bone. It made me nervous hearing her crunching that bone. After that she went the other way and did not poop for a couple of days, but continued wanting her daily meals. Yesterday I offered her more bone and chicken, but she wanted only the meat and no bone. She finally went this morning and her stool was perfectly formed. I think when a dog has been on kibble food, there is definitely an adjustment to be made. Their digestive systems must adjust just as ours do. And I'm sure there is a certain amount of detox that will take place too. Each dog is different and surprisingly they know better than we do what their system needs at any given time. They don't have to have the complete balance at each meal just as we don't have to. It is a struggle at first cleaning up all the poop and vomit, but I just keep telling myself that it will be worth it all. The most impressive thing I noticed is that you can put the flesh thru their systems and it comes out with hardly any smell. Put it thru a human system and get out the air fresheners big time. Just goes to show that God designed each creature with it's own system and natural food for it. He must have done that to keep the world a sweeter smelling place. Vegigran > Sorry to keep on about raw dog, but could some of you experienced raw pet owners help me AGAIN? > I am wondering how long I can expect my pup to have the runs (she has been raw for about five days)? > Do you continue to feed raw even when they have the runs? (Or do you cut them off & let them fast?) > My dog has had raw chicken one day, fasted the next (due to runs), but I feel bad that she is not getting enough food . . . > Also, could someone (Shelly? Micki?) reassure me about bones . . . > I am still nervous about the bone issue. I have chicken thighs for her (but haven't let her have them yet . . .nervous!). > Are chicken thighs okay? Any tips on beginning a dog on bones? > Thanks soooooooooooooo much! > Leslie
