Guest guest
Hi, folks, A couple of recent email conversations triggered some thoughts I would like to share, about being patient with ourselves and with the healing and changes we hope to experience by eating raw foods. First, this is an excerpt from an online raw foods newsletter I receive (I believe it's from Nomi Shannon): " Alcoholics Anonymous requires a full year of sobriety before you get your first achievement badge, a little disc with " 1 " on it. Why not 90 days? Or six months. Because they know so long as the toxins are stuck in your tissues, you're not yet sober. The toxins are more powerful than you are. " What is the quickest and LEAST PAINFUL way of getting the toxins out? Cleaning your cells so they can do what they do best -- EMBRACE LIFE. Without a doubt, the single goal of a living cell is to give life and give it more abundantly. " (Healing with Living Foods Newsletter #17) Second, someone on another list was sharing their frustration with not any weight at all during a time when they had been 100% raw for several weeks. This reminded me of a story shared by Nora Lenz at www.rawschool.com; she was raw for more than five months before weight-related physical change occurred. I have always been impatient with change; I know I have dealt with unreasonable expectations repeatedly, both in regard to physical matters, and things of the spirit. You know, things along the line of " I've been raw for 7 days; I should have lost 20 pounds by now! " " Why don't I have any energy yet, it's been 3 days! " Changes can begin to be noticed fairly quickly, but if they don't happen as quickly as we would like, we tend to give it all up. Now, I know change won't happen if I go back to my old ways; in fact, things will probably get worse, so perhaps it is the way of wisdom to give the new ways some time to have an affect? (I'm preaching to myself, here!) So, I just want to encourage everyone to hang in there; like Nomi said, embrace life. I know the old path was just leading away from life for me. And, as we have all heard numerous times, it didn't take a week to get where we are today; being patient and kind and generous with our bodies will get us where we want to go.
