AM Re: [Raw Food] Cleansing (WAS: Water and detox)

Hello Elchanon,

what a lovely reply. THank you. My height is 5' 7 " and I think I

weigh 130 lbs, I am not sure, I don't have a scale, but that is the

weight I usually keep. Am I supposed to have the regualr calorie

requirement that SAD diets require? Or since I am getting higher

quality nutrition, I assumed that I wouldn't need as many calories.

Hmmmm....A bit to think about. I didn't eat much fruit yesterday and

I ended up the cooked food dinner I had to make for my family,( so I

see what you mean by cravings) they are waiting to see how I do before

they transition. I am the guinea pig of the family...so, I am

determined to succeed. I know this is the right thing to do, to

switch to raw food, and listening to my body, I want to make sure I do

it right for my own health and the future health of my family. THanks. N

Greetings! Is Katon your name, or perhaps just a name for groups such as

this one?

From your answer, I have the impression that you are female, a wife and mom,

and very dedicated to the well-being of your entire family. I know that

making a change as significant as this can seem challenging, particularly

when one's family remains skeptical. One way to approach that, by no means a

" complete solution, " is to begin offering fruit at breakfast, fruit

appetizers, fruit snacks between meals., that sort of thing.

Remember the old adage, " Don't eat fruit before dinner, you'll spoil your

appetite " ? Well, guess what? Fruit before dinner DOES " spoil " one's

appetite, because the fruit, particularly if enough is eaten, satiates the

appetite. It provides the needed calories, water, oxygen, soluble fiber,

minerals, vitamins, enzymes, and other micronutrients the body needs, and

the body responds by winding down its hunger signal.

So spoil away!!! Never ask them to give up anything, just offer them nice

things, more and more, and just let them enjoy.

Do your children play soccer or any other sport(s)? I don't know anything

about your family, where you live, etc. But around here, the halftime shack

of choice is often cut-up oranges? Why? Because they are high in the

foregoing list of nutrients, sweet, easy to prepare, eat, and clean up. And

they digest rapidly, so that the kids are able to return to the game after

only a short break.

Point this (or similarly familiar things) out to your children, let THEM

draw their own conclusions, just give them the " facts " and ask them what

they think it might mean. They are smart, they'll figure it out!

Hopefully this is a bit helpful to you. Oh and about your own weight and

calories...120-125 sounds pretty average for a woman your height, depending

upon your build, athletic activity level, etc. And as far as calories go,

yes, it is true that many RFs can consume somewhat fewer calories than they

used to. This occurs because the effort required to digest, absorb,

assimilate, and eliminate are all reduced, and also because the system runs

much more smoothly overall. I am not aware of any definitive studies what

would tell us the degree of difference, however, I suspect it may be in the

range of 100-200 calories/day, not more, for most people.

Best,

Elchanan

In my own home, I bought a metal banana holder/fruit

bowl which I placed in the middle of the kitchen

table. Then I filled it up with apples, pears,

oranges, tomatoes and a coconut. Just having the fruit

out of the fridgerator and placed in a high-traffic

area has made such a huge difference in how much fruit

my son eats. Now when he wants a snack instead of

asking for something he just reaches for a piece of

fruit.

The coconut especially was a source of great curiosity

to him. He couldn't wait for me to open it. Then I

served him the coconut milk to him in a wine glass

(which he loved). This has since become a weekly

ritual for us, since I go through one coconut a week.

I'm very much looking forward to filling that bowl up

with peaches, plums, blueberries etc. as the summer

months draw near.

What a great solution! Here's another idea, can't remember whether I already

suggested it. Put out a plate of cut fruit, maybe 1/2 hour - 1 hour before

dinner. Oranges, that sort of thing, and invite them to have it as an

appetizer, as much as they want. Let it " spot " their appetite! (Oh, now I

remember, I did write this before. But that's okay!
