Guest guest
Hello all! I'd gone to the natural foods store about last Wednesday for my weekly banana (and others) run...it's about 17 miles away... Almost all of the bananan were green...really green...rats...so I bought quite a few of them and brought them home. By this weekend, they still had not ripened. I set a coule of bunches outside in the sun, in 70-80F degree weather...no change..hmm.. called the store yesterday, explained to them what was going on, and asked about their current inventory. They said they had lots of ripe bananas, and we compared definitions, yes, brown spots..good..and they agreed to take the bananas back, saying that sometimes " ...the growers pick them just too early, and they'll just never ripen... " !?! I hadn't ever heard of this..I'd even tried cutting the tops a little, and what I found was a very almost " woody " inside... --- 2nd story: I bundled up the unripe banans (about 7-8 pounds of them) and headed off to the store...they exchanged them, and when I went to check out the cashier starts bundling up almost all of the bananas I'd selected, and says I get a special price, $0.19/lb becaise they had lots of brown spots on them (vs. normal price here in FL of $0.69) WOHOO! such a deal...and they said they " frequently " put them on sale, because they get the brown spots... GREAT news... end of stories.. all the best, Bob
Guest guest
Wow I wish they would do that here I discovered an intresting link at the side of your mail it has a bit of the history of bananas and some things that go wrong. It was written by someone in Alaska but it has neat info in it http://www.gi.alaska.edu/ScienceForum/ASF9/977.html Love and kisses, Lu
