Dear Vegigran. I read your message with interest. Yes I am indeed enjoying

my vita-mix. I find that when I add greens. (so far I have only been adding

Kale as it is what I have found around here lately and it looks so green.)

Anyway when I add them to my smoothie I feel it to me much more filling. It

seems strange that greens would make one feel more full. But that is the

result I keep getting. Because of this I think I will try less nuts. I have

already reduced the amount of nuts drastically and I think that trend will

continue. Thanks again for your input. Lane

Hi Lane and all,

I've renamed this thread " transitioning " because you've landed upon an

important transitioning topic. In my experience, no amount of telling or

teaching people can ever create the learning that occurs when people try the

following experiment. If you choose to try this out, you'll begin to observe

and learn some very interesting things about how human digestion and

physiology are DESIGNED to work. Try this (everyone invited! :)

1. Don't eat anything for 5-6 hours. (First meal of the day works great.)

This experiment ONLY works well on a reasonably empty stomach.

2. Get 2 large heads of red leaf lettuce or one large head of romaine (NOT

kale, chard, etc. use a soft, tender leafy green). Rinse off the leaves if

that suits you, then put them on a plate. Start eating the leaves, one by

one, chewing in a normal way. (No need to overemphasize the chewing, just do

whatever comes naturally.) Keep eating lettuce until one of you begin to

experience some sort of substantive change such as the following:

- The texture/physical experience in your mouth changes, so that it is no

longer pleasant to eat the lettuce.

- You begin to feel physically full (in the belly).

Avoid eating anything else for at least an hour. As you are eating, observe,

REALLY notice, how the experience of eating the lettuce changes from leaf to

leaf, or every few leaves. Then after you are finished, make a conscious

effort to continue observing, noticing how you feel, fullness, when and how

thirst or hunger reappear, etc.

And let this be your first serious adventure into the world of eating

monomeals, and perhaps your first encounter with real satiation. Over time,

repeat this experiment with a variety of other foods, strawberries or

sunflower sprouts or oranges or bananas or nuts -- just experiment. Use only

the freshest, ripest fruits you can find. A great idea is to conduct such an

experiment right after you've gone to the farmers market or the store and

are driving home with baskets of beautiful strawberries (or whatever) on the

seat next to you. If you are using a fruit, do this experiment as your first

meal of the day. (On that day, don't worry about whether it's a sweet/acid

etc. fruit or ....)

Have fun!

Elchanan
