Guest guest
Elchanan - Thanks for that important info; I had not realized the significance of adding the root vegies to my smoothies with the leafy greens - that all makes sense. I will stick to just the fruit & leafy green smoothies, and leave the other vegies for my salads! Thanks again; you are a good, smart person! Regarding your (Swing) earlier question about mixing in the veggies, the greens are ideal (soft lettuces and celery best).I didn't see that you were using greens AND other veggies. There can be three issues about using other veggies: 1. You can end up undereating calories by limiting the quantity of fruits in favor of veggies. This would probably show up as hunger, a " sweet " tooth, or perhaps even a craving of some sort later in the day. Easy enough to monitor yourself, just something to notice. 2. You are bringing in a considerable increase in insoluble/nondigestible fiber, as opposed to the predominance of water-soluble/digestible fiber in most fruits. 3, The digestive system appreciates simple, " proper " food combinations. In particular, the more you bring in anything starchy, the more you promote fermentation inside you. (Sugar + starch + water --> fermentation). Root veggies, for example, are often somewhat starchy. Examples includes carrots, beets. So my suggestion is to stay more with leafy greens and celery. And again, I apologize for missing this distinction in my earlier message. Finally, as earlier, I question the ice, are you looking for a somewhat " slushy " consistency? I ask because everything in the body happens at body temperature, in the mid-nineties and above. So whenever we eat anything whose temperature is outside that range, the body must adjust accordingly. I often add an ice cube or two to a smoothie, but I don't use ice as they do on bars and such.
