I have hear that getting to know the farmers are the best way to get great organic fruits and veggies... but my question would be... how does one " get to know " these farmers? how would you know if they are telling the truth? what questions do you ask them.. Since I am rather shy in person... I would not even know how to open a conversation regarding weather their produce is organic or not... then if I did happen to ask them out right... where would I go from there. I do not know that much about organic gardening so I would not be educated enough to know what kinds would be better then what... or what questions to ask to make sure they actually knew what they were doing.... Joanie adds: Me too - I feel this same way; I would not know how to approach them or what to say. I hope that we get some feedback on this one. :-) _____ Hi everyone, I so appreciate these questions, I imagine half the RFs on the planet would like to discuss this topic. So I have an idea...if I can get a farmer to participate in a group call, using a free phone bridge, would that be appealing? Here's how it works, for those unfamiliar. A phone bridge is a service that allows many people to call into one central point and participate together in a call. There is one organizer/moderator, presumably me in this case, who has a few controls -- mute everyone, let everyone talk, other variations -- to help make the call go smoothly. We can include up to 100 participants in a call without cost, other than any toll charge you may incur simply to call in. For most people, this would be a trivial amount. As part of this call, we could actually ask the participating farmer to share and discuss with us some of his thoughts on talking with farmers. Then we can go from there. Thoughts? I realize that this may work out more easily for US/Canada people than others, both as to cost and time of day. But for those in other locations, if you check with your provider of phone/long distance service, they may have a nice add-on to cover calls to the US that you can add for a month. Varies country by country and even company by company, so I cannot add more.
